Newly renovated, The Fish Hopper, once an original sardine cannery building, offers spectacular views of the beautiful Monterey Bay from every table including our heated outdoor patio. The Fish Hopper specializes in fresh sustainable seafood, certified Angus beef, pastas and live shellfish. Our seafood is either locally caught or shipped in fresh daily; our produce is locally grown in the Salinas Valley. Start your meal with our famous award-winning clam chowder. Indulge in one of our many exotic cocktail creations or enjoy a glass or bottle from our extensive wine collection. While enjoying your delicious meal, you can watch sea otters at play and even see the occasional whale.
Very pleased with the food, the service, the price and the ambience.
This restaurant happens to be on Cannery Row. Sometimes retaurants at tourist -type locations can be hit and miss. This one is an exception.
Don't miss it.
Labor Day Dinner at the Fish Hopper was fanta-bulous! My hubby and I are very particular especially with Seafood Dishes. I ordered their Monterey Seafood Linguine and my hubby, the Halibut and Prawns. Both dishes were superbly cooked, in our opinion. There was a huge wait crowd by the door but the free clam chowder helped, together with the awesome full moon. The dessert menu looked so appealing though we opted to go for a Choco & Ice Cream dessert at Ghirardelli's. We were actually surprised at the quality of food that was served to us. Usually, when restaurants are that busy, the quality of food goes down. I'd say, if you happen to be in Cannery Row, give this resto a try and you be the judge. We are so going back there!
I have noticed the crowds pouring into the Fish Hopper for years and finally thought I would skip my local favorite spots and check it out. Well everything was, well very average. The menu is way overpriced for the average bland fare. Seems the cost is for the view. My advice is to avoid following the sheep into the establishment unless you need to have a great view and dont mind overpriced food that is just ok.
W went their and got some food. It was pricey. The food was overrated. My salmon sucked. Maybe they have other food that was better than that. My tab came to over 80 bucks for 2 people. Too much for to little.
The first time I ate at the FH was a lunch. The sanddap had been 'fileted' so that it
was only half a meal. I did not want to go back.
A year later, a friend wanted to take advantage of the locals special. Our meals were
both very good.
Last night I was ripped off again. Your recipe for preparing sand dab:
1. Take one fish filet.
2. Quarter it.
3. Take that quarter and filet it so that it is half the thickness of a normal sanddab.
Serve with one shrimp stuffed with slightly moldy crab.
[and the calamari appetizer was horrible. No calamari. Lots of batter.]
I WILL NOT BE COMING BACK EVER.
my boyfriend and i had dinner here for my birthday. we were seated next to a window that looked out onto the bay. there was candle light and a fire pit next to us. it was very romantic. the hostesses and our server (Roberto) were all very friendly.
the food was delicious, i got chicken (i don't care for seafood) and my bf got salmon, he said it was really good. we got the chocolate bread pudding for dessert, soooooooo good.
it was a bit more than we had planned on spending, but so worth it!!! the ambience, the food, and the view were all worth the price!! :)
really would not recommend to anyone with a budget.
For only two, we paid a lot.Meal was not that great. Should have gone to Red Lobster.
My husband really enjoyed his meal.I, on the other hand, could not eat my meal.I ordered surf and turf. Lobster tail was dry and meat was well done. I requested Med-well. outside the meat was completely charred.
My wife and another couple decided to have a nice dinner in Monterey before sunset on Sat 11-15-08. We had not been to the Fish Hopper for dinner before but had tasted the Clam Chowder
walking around in the past. We decided to give it a try. My crab ravioli's with prawns and scallops were very great. My wife had the macadamian nut crusted Talapia and absolutely loved the great
full flavor. Our frieds who aren't big fish fans tried the marinated skirt steak and kept raving about how good it was. I had to try a bite and in fact it was very exceptional.
We topped the meal off with a great bottle of Oregon Pinot Gris.
All this was an exceptional deal considering how great the mean was for the price. Bottom-line here - we loved it! We'll be back!
Keep up the good work!
I had reservations here with my boyfriend for a special birthday trip. The hostess was nice, but then the server did not come to our table for a long time. I ordered the special of steak (med rare) and coconut shrimp. When the food came my steak was med well and the shrimp were cooked just right. I sent it back and asked for med rare. They asked if my boyfriend wanted to send his back until I got mine so he did. The second steak was cooked exactly like the first, all the way tan/brownish inside, no pink and no blood. The server and manager asked how it was, I told the truth, but said I would eat it because I did not want to wait anymore. My shrimp were now burnt like they threw them back in the fryer and my boyfriend's food was cold. There was no apology by either the server or the manager and nothing offered for the inconvenience and poorly cooked food. We were charged full price and not even offered free dessert. I would never go back again. The only great part was the waterfront view and we had a nice bottle of wine and there was a special of 25% off wine bottles.
