With its red awning and brick walls, this family-owned business looks like it could have been lifted out of New York or San Francisco. It is cheerful, busy and laid-back. Customers of all ages wolf down pizzas, calzones and sandwiches. A new menu of chicken pizzas caters to the quasi-healthy folks in the crowd, though all the diners seem to enjoy it. A full bar is also available.
The pizza is very good but the prices are a bit higher than other pizza joints. The atmosphere is noisy and the seats aren't very comfortable but I suppose that's to be expected for a pizza parlor. Service is decent and there is plenty of parking. Tourists inundate the place on the weekends, though.
The pizza at Gianni's is well worth the price and the drive. Although they don't deliver, my husband and I order ahead for carry out once a week and have never been disapointed with the service or the quality of the pizza. We usually order their extra large which really is extra large (unlike some places who offer extra large that looks like a small pizza!). They don't skimp on the toppings. Definitely try them out, you won't be disappointed. Don't be surprised if you get hooked on it after one visit... we did! Oh yeah, they also sell Gelato!
The prices are a bit higher than what you'd pay at some other places but the food is definatly worth it. You can taste that the ingredients are fresh, and they always put a ton of toppings on the pizzas. The staff is friendly, and the food is great!
Since I was in high school, this place has
been the BEST in the Monterey Peninsula!
Back then, they sold it by the slice...and
us kids loved it!!! I still go today!
What is best of all, my office is right behind the resturant! You will not be disappointed!!!!!!!!
Been eating here for 25+ years, almost weekly. Family owned, comfortable seating, and NO video machines make for a great place for the family (or couple) to visit. Prices are great, if you are local you can ask for a frequent buyer card (which I have filled up many times over). Large dinning room you can reserve for parties and believe me this is used.
Many of the employees have been there for years, one of the bartenders Angie has been there 20 years. The service is quick and the pizza crust is so breadly that you will want to purchase their bread sticks as well.
Watch out for the night crowds, forget about Friday and Saturday nights unless you are willing to cruise the parking lot many times and are not choosy about where you sit. Sunday lunch is the perfect time to visit.
I am a fan of thin crust NY style pizza. I found that Gianni's loaded down the pizza with way too much cheese. If I go back I will ask for 1/2 cheese.
I am new to the area and I still haven't found a decent NY Style pizza.
