With its red awning and brick walls, this family-owned business looks like it could have been lifted out of New York or San Francisco. It is cheerful, busy and laid-back. Customers of all ages wolf down pizzas, calzones and sandwiches. A new menu of chicken pizzas caters to the quasi-healthy folks in the crowd, though all the diners seem to enjoy it. A full bar is also available.
I had the best linguica pizza I've ever had when I went there. My family didn't stop talking about how much they've craved it since we left monterey. We live in Chico, Ca and have thought about visiting again( mainly for the pizza!)
It's been 20 years since I had my first Gianni's pizza. I moved away and came back twice before I finally landed here for good 10 years ago. Each time, Gianni's was the first place I ate, and the last place I went before I was forced to leave again.
Over the years, I've seen the restaurant go from one generation to the next, but the Costa boys have only made it better. The menu changes every now and then, yet the favorites remain. Try the Big Wheel: 3 slices of 4 favorites on a huge pizza...really something for everyone. They also serve enormous portions of other family favorites like lasagna or manicotti.
On some Fridays and Saturdays, they have live music. It's usually something very Italian (and very casual), such as a strolling accordian player, or perhaps a string instrument. The kids love it, and you'll always here an old favorite.
The decor is updated (thanks to some broken pipes), but the family atmosphere and the pizza are timeless.
I went here for the first time in 1979 and haven't quit coming back! It's so relaxed and the pizza is out of this world! One of the few places you can get Linguisa on a pizza, YUM! Whether you're a local or a visitor, you won't be sorry! On a peninsula with so many great restaraunts, this is at the top of the list for italian and especially pizza!
my family has been going to Gianni's since before I was born. We used to live in Monterey and would go every week. We moved to Texas a few years ago and have yet to find a pizza that matches up to Gianni's standards. This doesn't only apply to Texas, Gianni's is the best pizza we have ever had from anywhere! We measure up every pizza we eat to our favorite at Gianni's, The Margherita. Gianni's really is a family place, the same loyal consumers have been going for 15+ years. If you're in Monterey, you HAVE to go!
I've been to Gianni's over the last 4 years when I worked the the AT&T Pebble Beach. I've always enjoyed the experience. Great food, a friendly staff, and a lively house. I missed the trip this year since I was taken off the assignment, but my wife and I are heading out to Carmel next week for vacation and I'll be at Gianni's at least 2 nights. Don't go looking for gourmet, just great Italian food.
