Gianni's Pizza

Description

With its red awning and brick walls, this family-owned business looks like it could have been lifted out of New York or San Francisco. It is cheerful, busy and laid-back. Customers of all ages wolf down pizzas, calzones and sandwiches. A new menu of chicken pizzas caters to the quasi-healthy folks in the crowd, though all the diners seem to enjoy it. A full bar is also available.

Gianni's is the best pizza in Monterey! Never fails. Their cheese/garlic breadsticks are also amazing with their marinara sauce.

We discovered Gianni 10+ years ago - since then, with two golf trips in Spring and two in the Fall, we've NEVER left without the area without having dinner there. A vegetarian, I loved their pizzas and calzones. Hubby have had many items from the menu, rated them good to very good. Prices are reasonable, quality of ingredients great, service quick even when there's a crowd, always very clean! Lots of regulars and now there are lots of regular vacationers like us.

Used to be ok years ago. Went in twice recently. Way overpriced for the quality...poor. Worst pizza ever. Out of town friends agreed. Staff & manager really poor attitudes. This is a shame since we live nearby. Went twice to confirm that it really is that poor. Try Pizza My Way which is really great pizza. Voted best of Pacific Grove, Monterey & Carmel.

Gianni's staff is incredibly rude. I went in with a service dog and they made it all too clear that she was not welcome. After embarassing the person who was in need of the service dog by asking her all sorts of questions, including what her dissability was, I had to remind them that they were required to allow the dog due to ADA regulations. My appetite was gone by the end of the ordeal, however we placed our order and got it to go. The pizza was soggy and the pasta had a strange flavor. Just recently I decided to give Gianni's another try. This time, I went in without the service dog, however the staff was still incredibly rude. I, once again, ordered the food to go. The pizza was soggy, the bread was stale, and the oreo cake was so dry that it crumbled. The entire experience was horrible and I will never go back again.

I live in Sacramento and was in Monterey for the weekend. I wanted pizza and happen to pass by Gianni's. This was my first time there and now it will be a place I also visit when Im in Monterey. I went to Gianni's pizza on a Saturday. It was so good, great taste and I love the crust I had to go back on Sunday for more. I'm huge fan of pizza and know my pizza! I'ts been a while since I found a great place such as Gianni's. I have told many people they have to go there if they are in Monterey. I encourage everyone to try it. You will want to go back for more!

Gianni's has always been a huge family and friends gathering place for me over the past 20 years. Whenever we had a childhood or even a Monterey High Reunion of friends, we would make sure to hook up at Gianni's. I grew up in Seaside and the Monterey Peninsula until I moved to San Diego for college, back to Monterey, then the Bay Area, and now L.A. for the past 15 years. I still come back here since the homemade pizza is still amazing, we love that you can have separate checks for large parties, they always accommodate us in the back room for 20-25 people, and the friendly atmosphere is impeccable!!! The owner Chris Costa is very approachable and it's like you're eating at his own home. A true local hangout and also a Monterey landmark. I recommend it as a must-go for any anyone and should be in the record books!!!

I went to Gianni's a lot as a child when Chris's dad ran the place and it was clean, well kept and had good service. He started the restaurant and had pride of ownership and it showed. When I read the cockroach comment it made me laugh because there are indeed cockroaches in that restaurant and lots of them. If bugs are in the restaurant or the building, they are in the food. So when people comment how they give ample toppings, they aren't kidding. Hint Hint. With the type of revenue they are generating, they need to put some of that money back into pest control and clean it up. The whole building needs to be tented. The health department needs to bring back it's letter rating system to protect the unsuspecting patrons that are from out of town and don't know what this place is like.

Gianni's has wonderful handmade pizza. They use a generous amount of cheese, the sauce is good and so is the crust. The atmosphere is better for families with small children than adults so I usually get mine to go.
