I had the lunch buffet and was very disapointed. The owners seemed more concerned with the amount of food I took than my satisfaction with the food and I was NOT satisfied. For the most part, the food was bland and mediocre. I had a very hard time finding meat in most dishes. The place was not crowded-there were never more than 8 people in the place and I saw minimal interaction between owners and patrons. The main concern seemed to be getting money from patrons rather having happy customers. I am not going back.
OK. First, we were two families that went there and we had one child each. The owner/manager was not happy to see the kids. This is not a family restaurant. Then the daughter of the family that went with us was crying and being fussy as kids are. The manager had the gall to reprimand the parents to keep her quiet. This drew protests even from other patrons. The mom was in tears!
The food was blah! Any other Thai place is Monterey is better than this
We went to this great little restaurant last night. We liked it so much that we went to the lunch buffet today. This is by far the best Thai Restaurant that we have been to. My husband and I had the Coconut Soup. It was great. What a delicious flavor. My husband had Asparagus with Scallops, Shrimp, and Squid. I had Sauteed Spinach and Chicken with Peanut Sauce. Both were excellent and beautifully presented. The service is excellent. The lunch buffet was wonderful. We were able to enjoy the Coconut Soup again. Even their Ice Tea is great!
My wife likes the yellow curry with potatos and chicken, but I love the panang curry here at Siamese Bay. It goes particularly well with the seafood like the red snapper or the salmon with prawns.
For an appetizer, I favor the Larb Kai. After dinner, make sure you try the sticky sweet rice and mango for dessert. Dee-lish!
The owner, Sam, is a really cool guy who will help you select a great meal if you aren't sure what to try or you're new to Thai food. He serves some pretty good wines here also. I like the Chalone Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon. One of my favorites for Thai food.
The food is overpriced and of low quality (i.e. $16 for a fried fillet of fish), but unfortunately, this was not the worst of our experience. Neither my husband nor I liked the entrees we ordered, so after consuming only one bite we informed our waitress. She became defensive and did not offer to exchange our food with a different dish, so we asked for the check. To our dismay, they did not remove the entrees from the bill, and we had to pay $38 for food we did not consume.
The owners of this restaurant appear to be more focused on the immediate financial transaction than providing good customer service. If they were better business people, they would realize the long-term financial advantages of, at minimum, meeting the customer's expectations.
If you choose to eat at this restaurant, make sure you know you will like what you order, because once the order is placed, you're stuck with it.
