Duck Club Grill (The)
Executive chef James Waller makes the most of Northern California's bounty at this epicurean outpost in the Monterey Plaza Hotel . House-made pasta, fresh-caught seafood and organic produce figure heavily into the menu. It changes seasonally, but items might include Steinbeck's duck, roast rack of lamb or broiled swordfish. The dining room is sophisticated and richly decorated with Oriental carpeting and floral-patterned upholstery. Glass windows along two sides of the restaurant afford excellent views of the Bay. The service is terrific.
I love the open kitchen. We could see the cooks grilling up our steaks. The service was amazing and the wine recommendation perfect. The Monterey pinot noir was an excellent choice. The desserts were to die for! I have been missing my mom's lemon meringue pie and the lemon meringue dessert was presented cleverly (no crust)and was really yummy.
Dinner felt like a mini cruise vacation - the views are right on the water. We could see otters playing in the water from our seats. The waiter even brought us a pair of binoculars to see them up close! We were sad when the sun went down.
We are local and can't beleive we never ventured in before. We will definitely be back.
Our waiter Jeffrey was delightful and the delicious food and local wine selection was a perfect complement to the elegant ocean view setting.
This restaurant is a feast for the eyes and for the palate.
Great food--very creative use of flavors. Amazing views--literally over the water on Monterey Bay. Very fine service--the waiter Luis has won some award for best server and we could see why. Definitely worth the trip--and the hotel is more stunning than the restaurant!
Wonderful flavors, delicate sauces, freshest seafood, a wild-mushroom treasure hunt surprise, all served with style & taste in front of a panoramic view of Monterey Bay. Can't wait to find an excuse to go back!!!
