I went to Harbor Hut yesterday after a fishing trip with my family. We were originally going to another restaurant but it happened to be closed for a wedding and since we were tired we decided not to go looking for another place to eat down the road. WELL... the place was packed so I will be courteous and give them 2 stars. We waited to be seated and then waited for a long time to get our orders taken. We were served bread with some garlic herb butter, the bread was too hard to eat.
The food came relatively quick. I ordered the beef hot sandwich, it was the worst tasting sandwich I ever had. No flavor at all just a slab of unseasoned beef in a piece of bread with dipping sauce I couldn't even eat because it was too salty. The fries were bad too, they had a weird taste to them like the oil was bad. My mother ordered a hamburger which came with a toasted and dry bum and nothing to put on it. She wouldn't eat the fries either. My dads clam chowder came and he said it was ok... they didn't even bring crackers and he had to wait forever for someone to notice our table before he could ask for some.
No one ever came to the table to refill drinks. We all sat there choking down our food with nothing to drink. Numerous waiters and even who I thought was the manager walked by us with all our glasses empty and not one offer to refill them. The ONLY time someone actually came to our table to check on us was to give us the tab. I had to get up and find someone to get us refills and even then he only tried to take my glass and only refill mine. The seating was horrible also. They have some round booths and they do not feel good to sit and relax on. I would never eat there again. I would never recommend it either. Your better off going to McDonalds than to this place... and that says a lot coming from me because I don't even like McDonalds.
This was our first trip ever and we chose to eat here out of careful consideration. We were very pleased. The blackened swordfish with mango salsa was ABOLUTELY FABULOUS!!!! Good drinks, great atmosphere and friendly waiter. Very pleasant experience and worth the money. We will surely return on our next trip.
Atmosphere was nice, food was pretty good, good drinks, nice view, service was alright, could have been better.
My favorite is the Clam Chowder.. The chowder is different here than I have had anywhere else and is loaded with clams, literally I had 10 pieces of clam per spoon full. The flavor is different from others as well, very creamy and yummy.
Try it for yourself and let me know what you think.

We have lived here in Morro Bay for almost three years and had never been to the Harbor Hut, so tonight, 08-13-08 we decided to go and take my sister in law with us. When we arrived, around 5:30 P.M. we stood by the Hostess Desk for almost ten minutes before anyone finally came over and seated us, one couple behind us left, and we probably wouldn't have been seated too soon if I hadn't called over to the bartender and he finally put his stuff aside and seated us. Never did we see a host or hostess the whole time we were there, so maybe there isn't one. Then we ordered, my husband ordered blackened Sea Bass and my sister in law ordered the Orental Chicken Salad and they both loved theirs. I ordered a Pasta dish, I can't pronounce, it started with a C, it sounded good at the time, with tomatoes spinich and pesto, well, that was the most bland pasta dish I have ever had, never did taste the pesto, no sauce that I could tell , there was a liquid, but it tasted like water, no flavor, especially to pay almost $20.00 for. The waiter did bring me some Parmesan Cheese and it didn't help, it had no flavor either. My husband tasted it and agreed, His Sea Bass was very good, as I tasted it. The Hot Bread and herb butter were fantastic, I filled up on it and their clam chowder, the clam chowder was very good. Anyhow, I brought the pasta home and added some artichokes hearts, chedder cheese, butter, chopped garlic, Italian Seasoning and onions and it's much, much better, my husband agreed, what a difference and no one paid me $20.00 for it. I will take it to work tomorrow for lunch, after paying for it I was sure not going to throw it out. The restaurant is old and needs remodeling, the restrooms are defently not wheel chair assessable, a good coat of paint would do a world of good, esp. in the restroom. Dusting pictures and cabients they are sitting on would also help. First impressions mean a lot!! The waiter did offer to take my dinner to the cook, but he didn't offer for me to have anything else or say what the cook would do, so I had no idea what his plan was as he didn't share that with me, as he didn't have very good customer service either, but at least he said something, guess that was good. Not sure I will ever go back, but I may since my husband liked his, but if I do, no pasta that's for sure! Moral of story: Don't go to a seafood restaurant and order pasta even if it is on the menu. Maybe, give customers choices of 1/2 orders and full orders, my husband said it was an awful lot of food and expensive, might get more customers too, if everything on the menu wasn't so expensive give size choices for less money, not everyone who comes to restaurants have a lot of money or that big of an appetite.
