Far Western Tavern

Description

In an era of chain restaurants and trendy eateries, The Far Western Tavern offers an authentic alternative, a dining experience that spans decades and generations while keeping pace with contemporary tastes. As always, the Far Western Tavern remains popular with local cowboys and farmers, but now also appeals to the Santa Maria Valleys growing influx of tourists, wine enthusiasts and urban transplants. At the Far Western dinner table, all find common ground in the distinctive and robust regional fare for which the restaurant is renowned.

Went there on a sunday for dinner and had the best New York Strip I have ever had. Also Met the General Manager, Thomas, and he was very nice to us and gave us some great wines to drink with our meal.

Went there for a luncheon. The food was very low quality for what was served at the price that was paid. I got a glass of water, veggie noodle soup and chicken caesar salad. The soup was nothing special and the salad had a small portion of limp romaine lettuce (about a 1 cup worth) and a small grilled chicken breast with a tasteless dressing... oh and 3 croutons. No dessert was served. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT based upon my visit here.

This place was GREAT! Great food - the steaks were incredible, the beans delicious, the bread pudding was exceptional (best we've had). I highly recommend this place - the decor is fun and the service is great. Also a great wine list. Definitely go there if you are somewhere nearby!

Finally made the effort and drove to Guadalupe, and had a phenominal Bulls-eye steak with local beans, cooked over red oak. My food was excellent, and I really like the fact that they try to use local beef, and produce. Even the red oak is local. Yes, I did wait about 20 minutes for dinner, but I just relaxed and wandered around to look at all the photos and memorabilia. Please plan 1-1.5 hours to have a real sit down dinner, and you will enjoy it. I enjoyed my steak so much that I am going back with friends this January. Also, you can go hiking or walking on the incredible Guadalupe Beach, just 5 minutes away.

We were very disappointed. The waitress was friendly but the service was slow and the food was poor quality overall. We drove quite a way to get there and it took forever to get our food, the soup was forgotten, the ribs were tough and dry, the hot food was only mildly warm. I did like the Salsa and chips, salad and the beans were fairly good. Due to the drunken patrons and crying children people had to asked to be moved and were threatened by the drunk patrons who were constantly swearing loudly in spite of the many children in the dining room.

By K, 8/9/07
IT WAS OK I WENT THERE WITH MY WIFE, THE FOOD OK NOT THE GREATEST BUT WHAT WAS THE WORSE WAS THE SERVICE. MY WAITRESS ONLY CAME BY TWICE FOR THE ORDER AND TO DROP OFF THE CHECK ALSO I HAD TO TAKE THE CHECK TO THE FRONT DESK TO PAY AND THE BAR TENDER HAD TO HELP WITH MY BILL AND I DID NOT GET ANY HELP FOR ABOUT 10 MIN. AND ABOUT 6 PEOPLE WERE IN THERE FOR LUNCH. BUT, ITS OK I WOULDNT EAT THERE AGAIN JUST KEEP IT AT JOCKOS....

Stopped by for a drink!
By Senor Cosmonaut, 10/2/06
I didn't have the time to grab a bite to eat at this historic (1912) saloon, but I did have time for a beer. It's a neat old West place that made me feel right at home. The menu looked great. The bartender was friendly and gave me a free beer when it was the last one in the tap! Pretty cool! I can't wait to go back there for a dinner. Very cool!

Steak lovers paradise.
By SH, 1/10/06
A quality menu of superb choices. It appears a bit pricey at first but the quality of the food will change your mind. They also have a good selection of wines to accompany their dinner choices.
