Chilie Peppers has always been a favorite of my family's. This little local spot is always fresh and always authentic tasting. I have many great memories of family dinners from Chillie Peppers and the food always keeps me coming back for more.
This place has cheap food, which is great for a college student on a budget. Their burritos don't compare to Chipotle by far, but for what there is in SLO, they're alright. I would not suggest going in the morning...they seem disorganized when they first open the store. And the food seems like it was kept there from the night before. I would suggest going later in the afternoon to ensure the food is fresh.
Once i had my first experience here, i've kept coming back. Their burritos are out of this world - the best i've ever had anywhere. The service and food have been consistently good. The food is very cheap for this area but the value is tremendous. They stand out in their vegetarian options too.
The broad street location is the best in my opinion. The cooks in the foothill location don't speak very good english and that has been a problem before, but the food is similar in quality. They do have the cowboy burrito in the foothill location though.. which is awesome :)
The food is ample, that's for sure. If you order the burrito, be ready to use both hands, and STILL drop it! I have to eat mine with a fork and knife. The rice is well made, not sticky, beans are good, and the food is flavorful. It is not overly spicy, but the salsa has quite a kick to it. I love the flavor.
It is a simple decor, and has patio dining with heaters. They used to have live music on Saturdays (or was it Fridays?) but I am not sure if they still do that. I am sure you can call them.
You look at the board to see what you want, then step up to the window to order. You actually watch him make your meal, and tell him what to put on or not put on. He wraps it up, you pay for it, then you eat. It's that fast, and that fresh.
A friend of mine didn't think the carne asada was authentic, but when put into burritos etc., it is great. I highly recommend this place, and the owner is very friendly. He is usually the cashier, so tell him you found him here. I am sure he will smile. Prices are reasonable, and you get a great value. I gave 3/4 stars on value because pricing is above $5, but well worth it. You have to go and experience this place!
I like the Mole Chicken Burrito. Cheap food. It's quick and painless. I've never gotten sick on it. Which could be a miracle. There's people eating there all the time so I'm not alone in liking the place. The one out on Foothill is similar. I think the owners are related. I like the cowboy burrito out there.
I've tried every Mexican restaurant in SLO and Chillie Peppers has the best burrito. My personal favorite is cane asada, rice, beans, cheese and a little sour creame. The other 2 standards in SLO are TA's (downtown) and the Chilie Peppers on foothill which aren't bad, but do not have the flavor of Broad's CP. The restaurant itself is not that nice or very clean looking for that matter, so I always take my food to go.
