Been here three. The first time, the service was just Okay, the facilities lacking and the food subpar. It was not at all authentic as claimed. Very Americanized, to say the least. In the middle of dinner, I felt water on my head -- the roof was leaking. While it was raining outside, it was a mere sprinkle and no reason why the roof would have leaked unless it has been in rather poor shape.
I never make a restaurant judgment in one visit, so I gave it another chance several months later. The food was just as my first visit, unimpressive. I was not impressed at all. The service was better.
My third visit was a forced visit. I had out of town guests visiting, and they had been recommended to dine at this establishment by friends. After my review they decided to give it a try any way. Five people in the party, and everyone agreed they had made a mistake.
Yes, this is definitely a family establishment, and it does appear that the staff is genuinely interested in your comfort, but the whole place needs a face lift and the menu and recipes needed to be revisited. It is not authentic (American cheese, what tasted like canned enchilada sauce, factory made tortillas).
There are smaller more authentic Mexican restaurants walking distance from here.
Tried this restaurant based on recommendations from westways magazine. The food was OK but no more. The worst part was the wait. It took FOREVER to get our food, then my sons meal was wrong TWICE. More waiting for the bill land to get it paid. It was a long night. Maybe we picked a bad day. But for the quality of food, and the service, its not worth the hype. Nothing I would go back to...
We came up on this restaurant by chance. Must have been fate. The only way to compare this food is, to my grandmother's. Every thing is authentic. We live almost 3 hours away and ANY time we are anywhere near this area, we make it a point to stop there. Having traveled as exenstive as we have, we have come across several Mexican restauants that claim to be the real deal and usually to our disappointment. I recommend Familia Diaz to anyone who wishes to experience authentic Mexican food.
