I love the B-egg-L from Jack's Famous Bagels but the service at the State Street location has deteriorated over the past year. My first indication that something was about to change should have been the morning that the owner was in the restaurant reprimanding the staff in front of customers. The girls that ran the counter were young, efficient, and friendly. These girls have been replaced with drones. After placing an order, the staff will simply turn their back to you and begin preparing the food. They dont ring up the order (which would be the logical next step), nor do they say, Ill get that started, feel free to get your coffee, and have a seat. (This is EXACTLY what the Milpas Street staff does.) Instead, as I previously mentioned, the State Street staff walks away leaving one hanging. I generally get my coffee and have a seat. The girls then stand five feet from you and insist that you walk over to the counter and get the food (which is NOT what the previous staff or Milpas staff does.) After you pick up your food, the staff expects you to return to the counter so that they can ring up your order and process your credit card. The machine is slow so the new staff expects you to stand at the counter while the machine connects. Today, I didnt stand at the counter so the staff brought the credit card slip to over to my table while I was eating and stood over me as I signed it. I dont think that ordering and paying for food should be so difficult. I dont go to breakfast so that I can stand up and sit down and stand up and sit down. Nor do I go to breakfast to stand around at a counter and wait for machines to process. And I certainly do not go to breakfast to have inefficient, unfriendly staff turn their back to me. I am so frustrated with the staff at the State Street location because their demeanor is beginning to sour the taste of the food. I just don't understand why these girls don't take my order, ring me up, process my payment, and then make my food available to me in a friendly, efficient manner. I think Ill be heading back to Milpas Street for my B-egg-L for now on.
