I have been going to this restaurant for 6 years now. One of my favorite places to take visitors from out of town. And every time they come back for another visit they want to come back to Maria Bonita. My daughters once drove all the way from San Francisco just to eat there. It is really that good. It is all about the sauces and moles. Very unique.
If you're a foodie who appreciates Mexican specialties from many parts of the country, such as Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Acapulco, this place will become your second home. This isn't a burrito joint or a taco take-out place. Their rice has a green tinge, the beans are smooth, and any dish you order will be uniquely crafted. You must have the black mole and the brown if you are brave! Get some tamales to go. This place is downtown near the mission. Don't bother with the other fanciful draws nearby. Go to Maria Bonita's yellow storefront. You'll kick yourself for not enjoying their delicious sauces paired with fish, chicken, pork or beef sooner. Sometimes there's live music, call and ask. Don't forget to try their flan, best in the universe! Thanks, Francisco and family!
