At 71 Palm, Chef Didier prepares French American comfort food using the freshest locally farmed ingredients. Located in the historic seaside town of Ventura, guests enjoy casual elegant dining in this Pet friendly charming craftsman's cottage.
You may not find the flawless presentation of some creme dela creme metropolitan restaurants. But hey, this is laid-back Ventura where the presence of a Chef like Didier is a treasure. And understand, the fare is French. If you're looking for five star Midwest steak buffet, there are restaurants that excel there.
But this is the kind of place where,if staff's presentation or the fare is not to taste, management welcomes your input and will recreate the item to your taste or correct the buss person without a maitre d causing a scene in your honor.
Quite good dishes served by a simple, business-oriented owner, who will coldly discuss in your presence with his buddies that he makes the most money on beverages. Accordingly, steer clear from overpriced wines by glass and expresso for $5, which he will try to push at you at the end of the meal.
We ate here with 3 other family members. My dish--chicken in a tasteless, gooey sauce--was so bad that I only nibbled at it and then gave up. My husband's steak was very good--it was a house special--but the other dishes were either under- or over-seasoned. It might be best to stick to the nightly specials. The dining room is cluttered and unappealing, although the service was OK. What a shame!
