I have been to a lot of sushi places in Orange County and Kokoro Sushi in Fountain Valley is the best. It is a quaint place where everyone makes you feel like family. By the second time I came there they were already asking our names and about us. By the third time we were on a first name basis.
The sushi is fresh and creative. The environment is cozy and relaxed. On Friday they break out the Karaoke machine and have some fun.
Sean (co-owner) and Paul are the masters behind the sushi bar and they always mix it up. Ask them for something creative and get a welcomed surprise of something you will never find anywhere else.
Angie (co-owner) is always smiles and gets an A+ in customer service. She will always greet you as you come in and say goodbye as you leave.
Excellent place! You owe it to yourself to check out Kokoro Sushi.
I have to come to eat here at least once a month, but if it's my choice I would be for all my meals. I eaten sushi all over CALI, but none compare to Kokoro. Ask for Paul's special dish. I also recommend trying the Harbor Roll, great for raw fish eater and non-raw fish eater, my wife orders it everytime. Must try very very great quality sushi and greatest service.
My co-workers went there and picked up some food for me... i thought i ordered Beef Teriyaki but what i got appeared to be Sukiyaki... (not even very good Sukiyaki) as i continued to eat i found black flakey looking things inside my meat and the california rolls were delicately placed with the meat and Sukiyaki/Teriyaki sauce so the use of soy sauce was tossed by the wayside... i really enjoyed how the wasabi was in the same sauce giving my food a nice wasabi Terkiya/Sukiyaki taste... (what were they thinking?) i attemped to drink my Miso soup but stopped after a few sips because i dont really enjoy Miso water... So here i sit waiting to get off work so i may go and purchase something edible since this horrid food was as edible as a old sweaty gym sock! Is this place even Japanese owned? If so where in Japan did you come from?!?!?!! My mom never made anything like this and while travelling in Japan i never ran across anything this bad... Please stop trying to imitate Japanese food if your not Japanese!
Service is top notch, family owned and operated. Huge variety of sushi, very fresh, very good. I recommend the bacon wrapped shrimp for appetizer. It is a very small, very intimate place, you feel like you are in your own home. The staff is super friendly and make you feel welcome every time you enter. The prices are very reasonable. They also have sake & beer. Sit down and talk to the sushi chef at the bar. Also do take out.
