Good food, nice place to hangout with friends over dinner. Soy paper crunch rolls as white fish tempura totally rock. My hubby likes the liver and beef heart side dishes. Be prepared to wait 30 minutes at least during the evening.
This place is in all honesty a wanna be Musha in Torrance... Our party arrived early put our names in and where told it shouldn't be longer then 20-min to which we got bypassed time and again by rude staff members who hadn;ta clue.
The food is unremarkable though I have to admit slowly improving – but backed up with service which was the worst I have experienced in a long time this place has a long way to go before I would honestly return.
I would honestly take the drive to musha or look else where to dine.
HONDA YA IS DA BEST IN ORANGE COUNTY BUT OF COURSE NO ONE CAN BEAT HAWAII'S FOOD. WERE KNOWN FOR BEING THE MELTING POT, AWESOME ALOHA SPIRIT! BEST SERVICE, JAM PACKED ALL DA TIME. AWESOME PRICES, EH YOU GET YOUR MONEYS WORTH!
After living 6 years in Japan, I have found Honda-ya to be the closest thing to an authentic Japanese izakaya in Orange County (Shinsengumi is good, too, but it's in Torrance). Sushi is not the specialty here. This is a great place to go for yakitori, ramen, and a chuuhai or draft beer. In the usual izakaya style, you can order a la carte as you drink. An order or takoyaki here, one of edamame there, and so on. The combination plates are the affordable way to go in more American style dining, but the a la carte dishes are worth the extra expense when I want to enjoy the nostalgia (it cost $85 for my wife, daughter, and me when we ate the traditional fare, though).
Get there right when it opens at 5:30 PM if you don't want to have to wait long.
This is the best Japanese restaurant I've ever been to. My boyfriend is a bit of a picky eater, but LOVES their rolls and teriyaki chicken, beef and salmon. Yakitori (bbq) bar, is delicious and inexpensive. Love, love LOVE this place! Highly recommended!
We were first in line but somehow not the first to get seated. We waited 45 minutes for our ramen and soba only to be told by the waiter that the cook forgot to cook our order. We walked out of the restaurant very angry and worse, still very hungry. Although we've been customers for 8 years now, this recent bad experience has spoiled it for us. We are now looking for a new Japanese restaurant in the area.
We go frequently - it includes an authetic Japanese dining room for groups if you want to sit on the floor. Noodles are great, everything's good. The actual dishes are better than going here for sushi - they have a wide selection of all types of Japanese dishes. Prices can get up there if you order a lot of the different dishes but very good food.
the food is ok it use to be alot better, the portions are ok for the price. i wish it was the same as it use to be back in 97 when i first started going... but for orange county it is one of the best places that wont charge you way to much.
