Burrell's BBQ, Santa Ana

Crap. Greasy, flavor-less food. I eat BBQ all over the country and this place looks like a good down home BBQ joint. Unfortunately the food sucked, sauce was awful and price was just ok. Don’t waste your time or money there are other BBQ in much better neighborhoods with much better fare. I wanted to like this place but the foods was as bad as the neighborhood.

Mr. Burrell q's up the very best brisket, ribs and such in all of socal. The cornbread and pecan pie are unworldly. Forget those big glitsy, well advertised places on the busy streets with the big stores and bright signs. Just go find this little red place off the beaten path on the shady side of town. Nobody does it better than Burrell's.

I love this place. When I was 19 I got a temp position working for Burrell's and he let me make my own plate for lunch one day. I tell you what: I put a little of everything on that plate and never ate so good in my life. God bless that man. God bless him everyone!

Having grown up in the South (where Memphis BBQ reigns), I can say that Burrell's is the closest to great Q's in Orange County. Notwithstanding one place (which has gone OOB) that I thought was THE best, Burrells' South Carolina style is good. What's good about his ribs, he didn't drown 'em in vinegar or apple cider and they are slow cooked til the meat falls off. Now my personal favorite is Memphis at either Corky's or the Rendevous. St Louis ribs ain't bad either. But here again, we're in SoCal. Here's to good eating.

If you want bbq and dont wanna pay or deal with the wait at lucille's, go here. Mr. Burrell is an awesome guy who, if you call, will even extend his hours just for you. Great food, great service, and best of all you eat in a backyard...homestyle at it's best. Look for the purple house on Hesperian.

I live in Dallas and know good bbq, I took 12 customers to Burrells last night for the first time. FRED is a goldmine of great BBQ. The food was great the service good the backyard is really cool. The cost was under $15 each and the best part of the evening wes Fred, he stayed open late for us and the neighberhood added to the spirit of the place. SOCAL get of your high horse and give Fred a chance he will provide a true southren style bbq diner. See you next trip. God Bless G
