great, no-nonsense family style teppan
Ichibiri has both a teppan bar & a sushi bar as well as food served at tables/boothes. We normally sit at the teppan bar, since we bring our two kids with us. The restuarant is very family friendly- the teppan chefs seem to really love playing to the kids.
Portions are HUGE and the food is very good quality. The filet is better than I've had at some upmarket steak houses. The seafood is always clean and fresh (as one would expect from a restuarant that also serves sushi). Most of the teppan meals come with miso and a green salad.
One very good deal is their early bird dinner. You have a limited menu choice (steak, seafood, chicken are the main ones) and must order before 7pm any day except for Saturday or holidays. The meal is also slightly smaller than the full-priced one, but it's more than enough for my hungry hubby. It's about $12 vs. $20 for the regular meals.
The teppan chefs never seem to mind if you have special requests like no onions, no sesame seeds, etc. It can get a bit busy so sometimes the service is spotty but anyone will help you if you need something.
We usually order something from the sushi bar to eat while we're waiting for our teppan. We've had calamari, spicy tuna cut rolls, california rolls, and fried shrimp rolls (crunchy roll). All were good, but we've never tried their sashimi (tho other people seem to like it).
I gave ambiance 4 stars because the restuarant is a little spare. However, it is very clean (including the restrooms) and there are some interesting origami art pieces on the walls.
Our kids really enjoy eating there and so do we. A good value for the $$, with good service and good food. You can't go wrong!
