California Beach Restaurant, Newport Beach

This is a great place if you think the buffets in Vegas are 5 stars.

Ever since Cal Beach decided to do the all-you-can-eat special everyday instead of just Mondays, this place has been packed almost every night. Nothing beats their special scallop hand rolls and tataki tuna. Definately worth the money and the wait!

My husband and I love this place the food is always great and so is the atmosphere. I recommend you sit at the bar the sushi chef are more than willing to make anything custom, special or one of their own creations. I highly recommend it. shugrl

I was there for dinner last night (Aug 10, 2011). There was a distinct odor immediately upon entering. It was not a fishy odor but a bad, unclean odor. The table cloths were dirty, the floor, tables, and menus were sticky and the restaurant was not in top notch shape overall. I've been there before in the past and it was not like that. The service was not up to par. We ordered appetizers and received our meal before the appetizers arrived. We asked for containers for our left overs. We were given containers but had to ask someone else for bags to carry them out. I probably won't be back. The smell really is a turn off. Also, the floor in the ladies room was so slick I almost fell down upon entering.

We eat at alot of sushi bars thru-out the OC, LA, & SD area. Cal Beach Sushi is by far the BEST. Todai has already made plain, ordinary Sushi. If you want Custom made FRESH off the boat. Its enterataining, the people sitting next to you are locals who are also there to have fun. Everytime a customer walks in or out they all yell welcome in japanese. Its the best atmosphere. Its really kool when a family comes in and the little kids are eating Octipus sushi, like tourists eatin cali rolls.. Over all its worth the drive if your not a Local.

This is not only a fun place but the sushi is fresh and one of the best deals in the state! We have been eating there since they opened and we celebrate every birthday and anniversary there because it is the best!
