Minato Sushi was so especially delicious. I went here with my fiance claurice and we both found the atmosphere and the people to be especially enjoyable. And not to mention the great taste in music they were playing it was a grand ol time, i would recommend this sushi place to others. Best part was it had very affordable prices.
This is BY FAR my favorite sushi place. I have never had a bad time there.. i have been to many many places, and im sorry to say, this place cant be beat..
If your craving freshly made in front of you (this isnt one of them premade all you can eat sushi places) and want to spend 20 bux and eat untill your heart is content.. this is the place to go.. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone.
Dont listen to the bad reviews. they must be crazy people.
In fact.. I think im going to go there right now for lunch special :)
Service was slow. The all-you-can-eat deal has very limited sushi selection, and you're charged $1.00 for every piece left behind. Most selections are cut rolls of 8 pieces, tempura, etc.
I opted for the premium sushimi for $19 & was given mainly cheap & thin pieces of white fish. There were only 2 pieces of salmon & 3-4 small pieces of tuna. Definitely not worth it.
Will not go back again. Very big disappointment.
Minato Sushi is probably the BEST sushi joint around here in SoCal! The fish is incredibly fresh, and lately, a new menu has added even more delectable sushi rolls to the dining experience. Try the Rattlesnack Roll - Unagi (eel) atop a wonderful shrimp tempura roll, or the Salmon tempura roll. Though I'm a sucker for tempura, I must say, the absolutely most wonderful thing about Minato is that it's so fresh - eating just the salmon, mackeral, white fish, tuna, and even the plain crab sushi brings wonders to your tastebuds. Yes, it IS that good. =)
James gives you VIP treatment straight up, slicing and creating magnificent morsels of delight quickly and expertly, even when it gets really busy.
Though we live further away, whenever we come back, he remembers us and prepares a whole plate of sushi for us to eat right away...because we always order the All-You-Can-Eat dinner! ^_^
James is the reason to come here. He's a genuine guy, and he cares about sushi. We came in on a lazy Tuesday afternoon, and he put down his back kitchen work to come out and personally serve us. When we ordered a roll that required tomato (Palm Springs roll, mmmmm...) he ran across the parking lot to buy a fresh one!
The quality of fish is excellent, and I should say, MUCH improved from when I first started going here 5-6 years ago (when it was a 1/2 price sushi joint.) There specialty rolls are excellent, and make it worth skipping the all-you-can-eat in order to get them. Try the Yellowtail & Lemon roll, and the Palm Springs roll. There standard rolls are pretty good as well, so try the Lisa roll and the spicy tuna tempura roll.
The biggest complaint is the service. Every week it's a new teenager doing the waiting. They are often understaffed, and they have a pretty large dining room, with a long sushi bar. It's not that they don't try, but they set an hour time limit on the all-you-can-eat and then it's hard to get their attention.
Overall though, it's quite good, and James is the kind of business owner we need to support: friendly, loves his customers, and cares about the food.
I love this place. I have found my sushi home here. The service is great. The food is excellent. (they do only use imitation crab in the rolls - just like EVERYWHERE else). The price is great for the quality. I have been to many sushi places and this one rates way up there because it gives you the whole package at a great price.
