Wow this place really does suck!... So check this out... My girlfriend and I were looking for a place to go out for a little Mexican on a Friday night, and we decided why not try La Capilla, it's right down the street from our house anyways. Before we left, much like you, we decided to check out the reviews. A lot of the reviews mentioned something about bad ownership, but we figured why not, its a Friday night how bad could it be.
So the food was average, no need to get into details, but to my shock, we actually had (you guessed it) another bad encounter with the owners. Right around the end of our meal an older lady and another couple sat down right behind out table. We were able to ascertain, from their rather loud conversation, that they were the owners. They began fighting over money, the old lady began crying, and shouting across the table... At 9:15p on a Friday night. Yeah the economy sucks, but I don't necessarily want to hear the owner of the restaurant that I'm to enjoy myself at complaining about it. Save the waterworks for someplace else besides your business, and maybe you'll cease to have your customers go on the internet and virtually complain about how much your business sucks!
In short, why bother going here. There's plenty of other places you can go where the owners don't crap where they eat!
p.s. The whole place did reek of smoke too if you care about that kind of stuff...
I think this place is a hit or miss when it comes to the food. The nachos supreme with beef was awesome, unlike any other nacho plate I've ever tasted! It came with CHUNKS of beef, not too many beans, sauce was awesome! I ordered the Colorado burrito. It was very big, loaded with beef, beans and cheese and it was good. Too huge for me to eat all of it in 1 sitting, it took 3 days for me to finish it.
My husband ordered the chicken en mole and that was not mole of any kind! It didn't taste bad but when your in the mood for something and don't get what you want it taste's like crap! I don't know how to describe the taste of the sauce but the look was a light brownish red and a little on the tangy side...not worth ordering if your a mole fan.
The strawberry margarita was delicious, perfect, refreshing especially after a long week of work! My husbands lime maggie was pretty stiff! Not sweet at all but heavy with the liquer.
As far as the salsa goes, I don't see what the hype is all about. Personally, pepper has NO place in salsa and thats what killed it for us! Didn't like the salsa.
We will be going back to try different foods because it is worth the try, like I said before, this restaurant is a hit or miss so we'll try again
If the salsa and chips are all that you care about, then this is the place for you. I'm guessing the bottled beer is probably OK. The margaritas con mucho sweet & sour . arrrgh! The chile relleno had a tough, under cooked, with pepper way too spongy egg batter. Beans bland, and the lemon chicken dish ...no bueno. The flan was very rubbery. No where close to authentic.
I was wondering if all the mexican wait staff might have been a little embarrassed by the low quality. Food OK for gringos, no bueno para mexicanas.
I love capilla! i recently moved out to the east coast and it's been torture being away from la capillas salsa and tortilla soup! the restaurant has comfortable booths and atmosphere, and the patio is awesome in the summer time for drinking a pitcher of margarita with friends.
We had to send our food back, because the meat that was used smelled bad. I like the decore and the service, but the quality and the freshness of the food needs to improve greatly. My wife knows an entire family that was ill after eating there and it's too bad, because I really liked the place. I hope they improve, but I won't go back for a long time.
