Natraj Cuisine of India
This is known as a high-ticket Indian restaurant that is still a great value. The atmosphere is low-key and the focus is on the food. The clientele is diverse, with businesspeople stopping in for the popular lunch buffet and others coming in for dinner to enjoy a relaxing meal. There is live music in the evenings, featuring classic Indian melodies. The menu is north Indian, with a heavy focus on lamb and chicken, with dishes curries and vindaloo. The vegetables are also very good and packed with flavor. The tandoori dishes are spectacular and are made in the famous clay oven. Beer and wine are served with a few bottles of wine available in the low-to-medium price range.
The food was average, but Garlic Naan was wonderful. Service was slow and felt if I asked questions it was an inconvenience. They served me a Cab when I ordered a Sav Blanc. Price for two people was $75 which was definitely not worth it.
Why does it always have to be 1 star or 5 stars? That's the problem with the online generation..major overreaction to everything. I've been to dozens of indian in NY, Chicago, San Fran, LA, Orange County, etc etc. This place is .... about average. No one dish is particularly good, but then it's not bad if you need an Indian fix. Some areas of Orange county have no Indian so this is my closest and I guess I could do worse. People who complain so much about the service of this place have never truly had bad service. Service is typical. You can find many better Indian restaurants if you are willing to drive. I wish I could give 2.5 stars, because it is slightly below average.
We are fortunate to have such an excellent restaurant in South Orange County. My family and I have never had a bad meal or a substandard dish here.
We go to Natraj on special occasions: birthdays, anniversaries, etc. I have traveled over much of the world, lived in Chicago, Houston, Miami, L.A. and Tokyo, and this restaurant ranks right up there with the best Indian food on the planet.
We have an extremely selective(picky) relative who lives in New York City, has been to countless restaurants there, and likes Natraj the best. I have hosted business clients there who still rave about how good the food was when we went to Natraj.
Their vegetables are wonderful thanks to extremely skillful use of spices. The lamb curry is outstanding as is chicken tikka masala, the eggplant(barta) is outstanding, the creamed spinach is outstanding. The Indian bread(garlic naan) is excellent and always served warm. The kids like boiled eggs in a tomato curry sauce(not as spicy) which is usually served at the Sunday brunch--this is not on the menu--but kids sometimes like the less spicy stuff.
One of the other written reviews gave it a 1 star rating and said they think they serve food over again. I sincerely doubt that person has ever eaten at this place. It is in reality always fresh.
Their Sunday brunch is all you can eat, and we have have left there often with our tummies filled to capacity with extremely high quality food.
We've been going here for a few years now and I was really surprised to see that they dont have a higher rating. There food is excellent, service is always good, the decor is a little outdated and it's only in a strip mall shopping center store but for good indian food at a reasonable price this is a great option. Didnt give it 5 stars simply because it does lack a little in the atmosphere/ambiance department.
I have been here umpteen times and love it.I especially love the sunday brunch with is more expensive but has more to choose from including lamb dished and a smashing egg curry. Also a mango lassi is included in the price so how can you complain about that?yum.
Natraj the name creates a havoc in me. The food is not that great and above all looks like he serves left overs / outdated food.
We have had a terrible experience at this restaurant.
If I have to give a star, I think I would think twice as it isnt worth a single star too.
I would never ever recommend this restaurant to any.
Hopless service and management with no morals.
Natraj is great! I love the food! My family and I have been there several times and plan on going many more. Staff is friendly, we never wait too long for our food. Anyone who has told me they have been there, love it also. A co worker actually told me about it about 3 years ago, shortly after I was introduced to Indian food:o) I love spicy so it's a great place to find spicy food on the menu. Dress is pretty much casual. It's only the decor that keeps me from rating it excellent, it's a little outdated. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Unfortunately we will not be returning to this restaurant not because of the food but the service if HORRIFYING. If you plan on dining there make sure you have no other plans that evening and that you've eaten before because they make you wait so long (in an unfilled restaurant) that you will undoubtedly be starving when you get your dinner (that is if they even remember your order).
Tried again by only getting take out and again we called from Irvine and when we got there still waited 45 minutes for our to go order. Tried again and same thing except now they've raised their prices.
Stay away because now they are overpriced and the service is nonexistent.
