This restaurant has been open in Laguna Beach since 1947. It is about as Hawaiian or Polynesian as you can get tropical and like a tiki lounge. Tropical fish brighten the room, and the fountains make you feel like you are on a Hawaiian island. The clientele consists of regulars who have relished this spot for years and tourists who stumble in by accident. Ribs, deep-fried shrimp, steak, tuna and more are served with pineapple and soup or salad. Prices range from $6-25. There is also a full bar plus a good selection of wine and beer. Don't forget you are in a Hawaiian place so have a Mai Tai or something equally tropical!
A crying Shame, after many years, many birthdays and many delious dinners its all over. Even after moving away from orange county I would make it a must to get to the Royal Hawaiian at least 1 a year. I was pleased that after the remodel that did away with fish tanks and campy decorations, at least the food was still great, you had to pay for he bread, but the salad, soup, and dinners were still alive and well. I was in Laguna for a dive this weekend and would not miss the opportunity to go to my favorite dinner spot. I will keep it simple it not the royal Hawaiian any more the menu was sad more appetizers than dinners.
I guess all things must end, the live band later on seemed to attract more kids than the food did people. oh well booze make more money than food. BYI the scorpion (the reason i found the RH in 1985) now sucks.
You can skip this place and not miss anything - my heart breaks
I have been to this place once. The former owner was my grand uncle. We dined here back in 1998 and my mom's first cousin, Junior was managing the place. The food was great. I wish I had many chances of dining here. I went back several times to Calif. to visit my relatives but never had another chance of dining with the new ownership.
I worked at the RH the summer of 66. Still remember how to make the ribs. The food was great and Mr. Cabang and his family were good to me. I hope that Mr. Cabang's children and grand children are well.

I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THIS PLACE. EVENTHOUGH THE INSIDE HAS CHANGED, THE FOOD IS SOOOOOOOO GOOD. MY PARENTS HAVE COME FROM WHITTIER FOR YEARS. ALTHOUGH BOTH ARE GONE NOW THEY INTRODUCED ME TO A GREAT LAGUNE LAND MARK. PATTI MC
We went to this place for years in our travels and it was always OK. This last time, I tried to leave becuse the place was so F#*King awful - no service, NONE...no water, no drinks, no one paying attention. Short staffed in the dining room, bar and kitchen. When the waitress asks you for salad with Ohno dressing...I'd reply OH NO!! After an hour of hearing the owner talk to everyone but us and watching his drunk A$$ parade around - enough was enough.
Don't eat here, I wouldnt' go back to this dump even if it was the only place with food in a post nuclear world.
Check your bill. Taxes and tip were calculated incorrectly. Laguna's taxes are 9.25% and I was overcharged on taxes and on the tip!!!
Food still great. Love the ribs and shrimp and the laupo laupo drinks.
