NEW YEARS EVE DINNER??? NOPE!!!! RUSHED OUT THE DOOR AFTER A 30 MINUTE $120 DINNER...........My husband and I decided to celebrate New Years Eve here. With no sitter we took our 2 year old with us. We were stuffed into the SIDE of the table/grill instead of just being offered to sit at an empty table and wait. We would of been fine with that to be honest. There was empty grills and they werent even busy so that bummed us out. From there our appetizer was served AFTER our soup and salad which was another bummer. Everyone at our table ordered drinks and appetizers so I assumed they would allow us to eat, drink, and relax for a minute. NOPE...like I said , she served us our soup and salad and then we werent even served our sushi (appetizer) until the cook had already started cooking....HU?? I began eating my salad and leaned over to care for my son and the snotty waitress runs by and takes my half eat salad and stacks more dirty plates on top of it. I wasnt even done eating it and she could see my reaction but did not care nor did she even react to my anger. She never refilled our drinks and after asking for more sushi (she never brought it) the dang cook had to yell across the restaurant to the sushi chef to reorder. Anyway, $120.00 later we were rushed to eat and then the check was thrown at us and out the door we went. You know....if you are going to drop $100.00 on a dinner for 2 people you would expect to relax with some cocktails, some appetizers, a little show from the chef, and some good dinner. NEVER go here to celebrate. They throw your food at you and hand you the check. The waitresses are rude. And its all about the $$$$$ here. No joke...we were here for 30 minutes. When we got out to the car we looked at each other and said....Never Again.

Loved it!! It was my first experience at a Japanese restaurant. Reasonable prices ($5-$9 for sushi appetizers, ~$20 per entree, which includes soup, salad and rice). Everyone seems to enjoy themselves. Make sure you sit far from the front door. It got very cold and windy every time someone walked in. We will definitely go back.

I loved the place, they gave me the best service, very attentive, fresh sea food and great steaks. I would go back over and over again if they were closer to me.

I'm a big fan of teppanyaki, however, I'm not a fan of this restaurant. I live down the street from this establishment, and my wife and I have had several issues with this place. One time went went in with our family, and no one would acknowledge us, greet us, or anything, despite 5 of us waving our hands at people who could obviously see us. So we decided to leave. Strike one. I always give a place a second chance, sometimes things just aren't going well. Another time, I called to place an order for pick-up, and after talking to someone and placing my order, someone else came on the phone, told me they were too busy to do take-out, and hung up on me. Besides the customer service issues, the food compared to most other teppanyaki resteraunts just isn't that good. So if you skip this place, you'll be OK.

My fiance and I love this place. We have made it a tradition to go there ever year for Valentines Day! We love it and recommend it to anyone! The people and atmosphere are outstanding. It is located in a really odd place but that makes it all the better.

I found this place through a recommendation by a co-worker. I was hooked from the first time I went there!! Forget Benihana....the food here is MUCH better!! The chefs are friendly and the service is excellent! I have since taken my friends there and now this is the place we love to go to for a Friday night dinner. You must check it ou!!

The BEST!!!
By Kayla, 5/2/06
We went there for a niece birthday for the first time and it was great!!!! Didn't even know that the place is there, but it's worth the try.The teppan guy was so nice and amazed us with his shows and stunts : ). The kids loved the experience and been bugging us to take them back there. We tried a couple stuff from the sushi bar with the recommendation from our friendly server and loving it....!!!! Do try their spicy volcano and rock n roll they're just awesome. If you are a big eater, they have a crazy combination of king crab, lobster and filet mignon. Although they don't have a full bar but their wines selection are not bad eaither. Be sure to check out the cloudy cold sake in the pretty pink bottle, it rocks. The best dining experience....

Try it now! You'll be surprised...
By Evangeline, 12/23/05
Somewhat oddly placed between a Lampost Pizza and an Auto Parts store is Shimas Sushi and Teppan restaurant. Although Shima has been around for a while, the menu is surprisingly new. Recent changes in chefs has sparked a fantastic change in the overall sushi menu and qaulity. For the traditionalists - try thier seared Tuna or the Albacore, they are extremely fresh and well cut. If you like more savory items, then go for the Volcano, a delicious cut of salmon baked with creamy crab and scallops. A best bet is also the Scooby snack, this treat is not offered elsewhere and is a yummy baked spicy tuna cake (very delicious). Shima is rather large so you are sure to find seating either at the bar or at a teppan table. The many teppan tables gaurantees you'll find something for anyone in your party. Shima is a very kid friendly place - so families abound. However, if you are looking for a clandestine night with your sweatheart, you may want to go somewhere else. Overall, a very high recommend, and you don't have to fight the traffic or parking of the hotspots of HB or Newport to get here.
