Genghis Khan Mongolian Bar-B-Q
Buried in the far corner of the quiet Twin Peaks Plaza, Genghis Khan Mongolian Bar-B-Q has poor visibility, but this family-owned restaurant has been around since the 1970s. Why pay a restaurant when you can get a big plate of Mongolian BBQ for cheap at a food court? Once you walk in, you realize a few reasons. The restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated with masculine Mongolian art and pretty Chinese paintings. The friendly staff are upfront about the fact that the regular portion is generous enough for most appetites, although an all-you-can-eat option is offered, both with a variety of sauces. Suggested recipes are provided for different tastes. From seafood to vegetarian, the menu has no shortage of variety.
The meat was OK at best, but the rest of the experience was not. Noodles, tofu, mushrooms... all items I expect to be a part of the mongolian BBQ experience were all extra charges. And the noodles were spaghetti you could go down to the store and buy.
The selection of veggies and sauces was dismal, and instead of fresh garlic, you can help yourself to garlic powder. I'm going to continue looking elsewhere for some good Orange County Mongolian BBQ.
I've been going to Genghis Khan for years. Julie and her family treat my family like her own. The food is the best, the service is great and you can't beat the the prices. The Orange Chicken or Orange Beef is the best anywhere!! And don't miss the Crab Wontons. We always take all our out of town guests there and they are never disappointed. Best Chinese and Mongolian BBQ anywhere.
I love this restaurant. The owner is very friendly and remembers customers, even if they haven't been there in awhile. Prices are very affordable compared to other Mongolian restaurants. May need to time your trips to the cooking area to avoid waiting behind a big party/familiy. Great food, and bring your appetite if you choose the all you can eat.
This is one of the best Chinese food around. My favorite is the war wonton soup. Best I've ever had. You also have to try to their candied apple dessert which they flambe, then dip in ice water to carmelize.
I have lived in the area for over 30 years and Genghis Khan is the best restaurant around! It is family owned and operated. The service is great and the food is top notch! We always bring guest here and they become hooked! Every time they come to visit they ask to go back for that fabulous Mongolian BBQ place. Go see them today for lunch or dinner they are they best around! You wont be disappointed!
I HAVE BEEN TO SEVERAL MONGOLIAN BB-Q'S & MY VISIT TO THIS 1 TODAY WAS BY FAR THE WORST.THE SALAD WAS THE SMALLEST I HAVE EVER SEEN AS WAS IN A 6 OUNCE CUP.THE BUFFET VEGETABLES WERE LIMITED & THE DISH WAS EXTREMELY DRY WITH THE SAUCES RECOMMENDED.THE MEAT JUST FRIED AWAY TO NOTHING EVEN THOUGH WE PUT PLENTY IN OUR BOWLS IT ENDED UP LIKE EATING A BOWL OF VEGIES.I HAVE BEEN TO OTHER BB-Q PLACES WHERE U CAN FIND & TASTE YOUR MEAT IN YOUR DISH, MUCH LARGER, TASTIER PIECES OF MEAT. THIS DINNER ENDED UP BEING LIKE A VERY DRIED UP VEGETABLE DISH..THE POCKET BREAD WE BARELY COULD OPEN WITHOUT TEARING TO PIECES & THE EGGROLLS WERE THE SMALLEST I HAVE SEEN ABOUT THE SIZE OF YOUR THUMB NAIL TO YOUR FIRST KNUCKLE, REMINDED ME OF CORN FRITTERS.THE RESTAURANT WAS LIKE AN OVEN INSIDE AS HOT TODAY & THEY USE NO AIR CONDITIONING, WE WERE SWEATING AS WE WERE EATING. I BROUGHT MY FRIEND WITH ME TO EXPERIENCE HIS FIRST MONGOLIAN BB-Q RESTAURANT & HE WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED.. WE WOULD NOT BE RETURNING HERE AGAIN.
Ok... not the best Monglian BBQ I have ever been to. However, its not terrible either. Very average. Price wise it is super cheap and definitely worth the value.
I think they are limited on the ingredients (compared to Mong. Bbq I have enjoyed). And the decor is a little worn - my seat was repaired with duct tape.
But for a decent cheap no frills meal - go 4 it!
