I discovered this hideaway from an old college pal visiting from Japan.
One if not the only restaurant filled with Japanese patrons. This is truly a Japanese restaurant and not a Korean knock-off.
Go someone else if you are looking for sushi rolls stacked with a mesh-mash of fish on top.
I been there twice and the service was very good. All my visits were early in the dinner service because the restaurant is usually packed. There is a nice selection of dishes not normally served in sushi restaurants.
A comment about a reviewer denied soy sauce mentioned in a prior review listed on this site. Better restaurants real soy sauce prepared for sushi dishes. They are flavored and enhance the taste of the dish. Not the salty brew sold in grocery stores. Some of the dishes prepared with special salt seasoning and adding soy sauce will alter how the meal was meant to taste. Its like adding catsup to everything you eat.
You can't go wrong here if you are looking for a genuine Japanese restaurant. Go somewhere else if you are looking for generic commercial type hand rolls.
The Ikko in Torrance is not as good as the one in Costa Mesa. I guess the cooks make a difference.
Great food but unfortunately the worst service I have ever received! Time limitations on tables. A 40 minute wait to take a drink order. Longer for food. The wrong meal was served and snatched away. Take your hard earned money elsewhere.
From the happy greeting at the door to the wonderful quaint atmosphere to the incredible food, this place is not to be missed. Chef Ikko has truly created the place to go for sushi and Asian fusion cuisine. I can't wait to go back and make this a regular spot to enjoy a meal meant for an emperor.
If you can't make it to Japan for some authentic sushi, then stop by Ikko for the best in OC. They regularly fly exotic fish in from Japan. Be sure to try the sting fish, it makes your lips tingle. The chefs take their jobs seriously and you can tell by the works of art they create for each guest. Don't let the small place fool you, go see for yourself, it'll be your little secret sushi spot too!
This is a perfect restaurant if you want to enjoy many many small dishes... like Spanish tapas style. The restaurant is not just about the serving style, but food is very authentic and pleasing for delicate palate. They also serve numerous kinds of sake, which can be paired with the dishes. The restaurant is a little small, so I would recommend it for the party of 2-4 people, for social and romantic occasion.
