First founded in Rome, Italy, in 1950, this restaurant found a second home in Dana Point and it offers a superb menu of fine, authentic Italian cuisine, complemented by an extensive, award-winning wine list.
My boyfriend and I travel all the way from L.A. to eat at this wonderful and elegant restaurant. The food is amazing and the service is impecable. Also, it is nice to still be able to eat at a location where people bother to dress up to go out to dinner.
My husband and I discovered this restaurant about three months ago, and now we try to go every chance we get. By now I've tried at least half of what's on the menu (as well as many of the dozens of specials that are offered nightly) and every dish has exceeded my expectations in terms of portion size, taste, and value. But what makes Ferrantelli such an exceptional dining experience is its impeccable service. Every waiter talks about each dish as if he's created it himself, and every waiter is well versed in the very thorough wine list. I highly recommend the sea bass when it's offered as a special, I adore the spaghetti tuttomare, which includes tons of seafood and a light tomato sauce, and I swear by their apple tart dessert--it is truly heavenly!
The best thing about this dining experience was when we finally paid the bill and walked out the door. Really!! Poor service, painfully long waiting, we felt sick before leaving the establishment. Will never return!
I bring friends to Ferrantelli's frequently and have never had a single experience that wasn't top notch. The food is consistently delicious and the staff could not be more attentive. The atmosphere is dark and romantic and it is beautifully decorated in December...great place for business or personal gatherings. LOVE it.
I attended a party at this restaurant last night. It was my first time -I'mdfrom LA. The food was some of the best Italian food I have ever had. The servers were so kind and very good at their job. We were a large group and we were served fast! The patio is a beautiful spot for a party. The salmon on homemade pappardelle pasta is to die for as well as the filet mignon with shrimp. I tried my friend's lobster ravioli and I couldn't decide which item I love more. This place is a must try! I will definiely drive up from LA as often as I can!!! LOVE!!!!
We enjoyed our dinner at this smashing restaurant, and, the waiter was helpful and courteous. Great place for fine dining. Soft lighting, beautiful interior. Only thing that they must work on are the drinks. The drinks are skimpy. Not weak, just skimpy. They really should give people a good pour. We will return to the restaurant, but next time I'm going to make my Scotch a double to be comparable to other fine restaurants.
I had my baby shower at Ferrantelli's a couple of weeks ago and couldn't have been more impressed! We had a large private room that was quite elegant. The servers were all amazing and took good care of us for hours. We were there all day-we did'nt want to go! Our food was delicious from the calamari appetizer(best I've ever had) to the entrees Salmon with prawns in a light tomatoe sauce ( freshest seafood cooked perfectly)and filet mignon cooked just right with a wine sauce that was to die for! For dessert - Tiramisu(the ladies wanted to lick the plate!!!!) This is the place to go for a special occasion or large gathering - when you leave you will be like family! Special thanks to Anthony!
My wife and I went on Valentine's Day 2009. We had reservations at 7:00p as did about 150 other people. We were not greeted when we arrived, nor was our name taken and put on a list. Finally about 7:30p they started seating people. They went be the honor system which basically meant that the closer you were to the front desk the faster you were seated. We did not get seated until just before 8:00p. All this was awful. The guy at the desk was a trainee and had no idea what he was doing or what was going on or how to do anything. All this being said the food was good. But our waiter NEVER checked on us. It was appalling! Then they had the audacity to force a $32.00 gratuity on us -- for what!!! He never even brought us our food, the bus boy brought it. Also part of the evening package was supposed to be champagne and a picture taken in their valentine display. Neither of these options were afforded to us!
