Anchos Southwest Grill
It's our pleasure to provide you with the best of the Southwest in a friendly and casual atmosphere. Our menu features mesquite grilled meat, fresh seafood selections, homemade tamales, New Mexican enchiladas and chile rellenos. We also have Texas-style fajitas and ribs that are prepared in the Southwestern tradition, complemented with regional sauces and salsa. To accompany your meal, we also press and fire our own fresh, hot tortillas, and offer a complete selection of cocktails.
It was my first time visiting Anchos w/some friends. They paid $50.00 cash on the bill and we paid the other half on our credit card. Come to find out the waiter double charged us and kept the $50.00 cash plus $20.00 tip. Called the restaurant the next day and spoke to the manager as to why we had been double billed, and he told my husband that they would investigate it, but to not call back to keep it between them two. I thought that was kind of odd. Not only that, supposibly the waiter stated that we had went back to the restaurant and ordered some drinks. First off, I don t drink and why would I go back when its out of my way. The only reason why I am posting this is because there may be others this has happened to but never posted anything. Please be careful if your paying w/half cash and credit card that you re not overbilled. They finally reimbursed our acct. But I would nt trust that waiter nor would I think about going back.
The food is no where as good as the buzz I heard about, I went with my family there and none of us enjoyed our food. I ordered the seafood enchiladas thinking there was going to be a variety of seafood in there, nope only shrimp and 3 baby scallops, the sauce was not good either, I could of bought a box at the store and had better quality, way overpriced, my mom ordered the tacos, shells were store bought and meat was dry. The only good thing about this place are thier tortillas but I would never recommend eating here. Go to chipotle or el Torito.
Ambience: The decor looks cheap and the booth we sat in was very uncomfortable.
Food: the chips and salsa were disappointing, and things never improved. The only dish we enjoyed was the Mexican-style steak--it was moist, tender, and flavorful. Unfortunately, the rest of the food was dry and rather bland.
Service: while our server was sweet, she was ill-informed about the menu and often mixed up our order.
While the steak dish was acceptable, virtually everything else wasn't. From the subpar service to the tomato paste masquerading as salsa, Anchos simply failed to please. Considering the vast number of Mexican restaurants in and around Riverside, there's not really a reason to return to Anchos.
I've been going to Anchos for over 15 years. The owner is incredible. The staff is fast and hard working. The tortillas and all steak fajitas are the best on the planet. When it's my turn to pick dinner I pick Anchos.
I just introduced my wife to Anchos and, as expected, she loved it. We will be going here on a regular basis. Their homemade tortillas and salsa are soooooo good. I would definately recommend this place to everyone.
