The food here is top-notch, the service indifferent, and the entertainment fascinating. After we had ordered our nosh, a woman started screaming in the kitchen. Maybe she saw my shirt, maybe there was a public health inspector lurking in the meat locker, maybe she was in labour. What was truly remarkable about this little episode was how blithely some of the other staff sauntered over to the kitchen, opened the door and just stood there, bored. Maybe this is a daily occurrence for the customers' benefit, but it was jolly entertaining for us. She calmed herself after a few seconds, probably after the health inspector had given her an A for effort and an A+ for the food.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, especially the garlic nan bread, just the right texture and flavour. Also the lamb curry sauce on our chicken tikka was just tangy enough to dance on our tongues, but not so spicy that we were gasping for yoghourt. I recommend Ravi's to anyone with adventurous taste buds and a yen for kitchen drama.
This was our third dinner at Ravi's, and there will be more.
Let's face it: my wife and I are just a couple of local Latin schlubs born and raised in the Inland Empire. The most exotic thing we've ever eaten is Buche and Birria with Negra Modelo instead of the usual Corona.
A friend of ours recommended Ravi's a couple of months ago and we were instantly hooked. Yes, we've read the more negative reviews about ceiling stains and rudeness. I can safely say that those issues no longer exist. Being Latino, we can care less anyway, as it is an unwritten rule that THE BEST places to eat must have at least 3 health code violations. Sleeping cats are optional.
Back to what's IMPORTANT: the food is EXCELLENT!!! What others from the Inland Empire are too scared to try works perfectly in our favor. Being a relatively unknown restaurant, there is always great seating and the service is top-notch. The prices aren't too bad, either (approx. $15 for a Thali dinner with soup, rice, main course, Nan bread, etc).
As long as the food is good and the prices are reasonable, my friends and I will most definately be back. Does anything else really matter?
Second the motion on the decor. We've been going to Ravi's since they opened in the late 80s. Food is still very good, but the ambiance needs some work. Ceiling tiles stained from the roof leaking years ago, paint scrubbed off the walls where the tables rubbed, mens' room in poor shape. And what's with that bedsheet or whatever in the adjacent room?
But there are new chairs!
My boyfriend and I really love the food at Ravi's, especially their shrimp vindaloo & garlic naan (really to die for). Prices are reasonable compared to other Indian restaurants. The only criticism is their decor and sometimes, their service. However, the food is never disappointing. If you want ambiance and great service, try another restaurant, but if you want a delectable Indian food, this is the place for you!
food is not bad....the tandoori chicken, which is the most famous dish of inida, is not authentic..they cook it days in advance and then broil it before serving...spoils it completly, dosas are great...hey, owners, if you are reading this, take a good look at your tables, chairs and carpet...its as ancient as the ming dynasty..i am afraid to sit on those bamboo chairs for the fear of falling off when it breaks......
