Johannes, Palm Springs

I've deleted my last rave review of this place from May because, upon my return, we had a very lackluster night. The food this time was not up to par. The waiter that was so funny and helpful is no longer there and his replacement was unfriendly. The place was empty at 8pm so they could have at least tried to make us feel welcome. The owner was too busy trying to pick up two women at another table to be in the kitchen cooking and we might as well have been invisible. How many times do you have to ask for more bread and more water? Quite a disappointment!

Can only say that service was so slow and snobby that even if the food was good , which apparently it has changed and is not anymore would never go back. Who needs that grief and disrespect when your paying those prices.Too many other places that try to make dining a good experience that I would not put myself or guests through again.

What a disappointment! A small group of us had New Years Eve dinner there and it was simply awful... service was extremely spotty - food utterly unremarkable; overwrought, complicated, too-fancy and trying too hard - the wait between courses was interminable. We began with a watery tomato bisque soup, followed by a giant burned crunchy South African prawn - I had an endive salad with a too-tangy vinagrette dressing... the main entree was a steak that was served tepid... the cost for this culinary debacle was $100/person... and after adding in the mandatory 20% gratuity (not disclosed at the time of our reservation) and the alcohol, the bill was nearly $1000. For six people to have dinner at $1000, it should have been an EXTRAORDINARY experience. Unfortunately, it was not. What a shame, because this restaurant enjoys a great reputation and my previous experiences have been positive but after last Monday night's dinner, it will be a long time before I return. Check the menu carefully - and insist on resposive, helpful and consistent wait staff -- all lacking New Years' Eve. My god for $1000 the dinners we could have had elsewhere! What a complete waste of money.

Everything is absolutely perfect ! Especially the Austrian Food is wonderful The Wines are reasonable AND the selection is also wonderful Best Restaurant in Palm Springs Area ! The Happy Hour in July and August is one of the Highlights of the year at JOHANNES RESTAURANT

The service was awful. It took 2 hrs to get our first course. THe management is rude and indifferent. The food is very over priced. Never go there again.

From the fantastic art on the walls, to the lovely ripe green apples on the table, to the heavenly food. This place has it all. Yummy.

Don't waste your time searching out Palm Springs best restaurant- save yourself the energy and just go to Johannes. Nothing, but nothing is bad here. One exception, he needs a bigger place that can seat more people. Obviously, Johannes enjoys the small intimate atmosphere- there is no doubt he could pack a stadium should he decide to expand. Definitely a winner. Well worth the extra dollars...and this is comming from a local.
