Camacho's Place, El Centro

I have lived near the Mexican border all of my life and have had the priveledge of authentic Mexican cuisine over 50 years. Camachos Resturant is a relaxed homelike atmosphere with wonderful owners and excellent service. Three generations of my family have sampled their great food from their chili rellenos (bar none) to their outstanding special quesadillas , not to mention tacos, tamales, enchiladas, many house specialties all with special flavor only found in true down home authentic mexican food. I recomend this as a must to travelers and locals, can't be beat.

Opening day of dove season (September 1st) and this place is packed to the gills. You have to love this food to wait in 100+ temps for an hour or more. But the wait is well worth it. Real Cokes, best combo plate around (red cheese enchilada, pulled beef taco and chili rellenos that burn your lips, refritos and Spanish rice just like Abuelita made [the cooks are all abuelitas or tias]..coldest Cokes in the Imperial Valley too). We were there one time when a bunch of military pilots came in. The Air Force, Navy and Marine "hot shot" pilots love this place too. The owners knew my Dad and would give him a calendar when we left. If you have a chance to visit please do. There are not many of these "icons" left in California.

Best MEXICAN in the Valley! & Iove the people who run it!

This hole in the wall place has simply the best authentic Mexican food around. Well worth the drive. We stop whenever we are in the area. They offer a wide assortment of regional foods.

I grew up in the valley and this is one of my all-time favorite restaurants there. It is a bit out of the way for the traveller but it's worth it.

While it"s out there in the waistlands, it has GREAT FOOD!!!!!! We found it by accident this trip to San Diego. Plan on making it a regular stop on future road trips.

Our first time to eat at Comachos was "56" years ago on our first date. There was only one table, but the same great food. These recipes were passed down from one generation to the next. We had dinner and partied there about 8 times a month for 16 years and several times a year since we moved. The ambiance has the feel of old Mexico...but the food is better than Mexico. We travel a lot but never find Mexican food this good in or out of the U.S. A fun place to go, everyone does. Average prices. Thanks to the Comacho family for your hospitality and great food. its out in the middle of nowhere but if you actually FIND the restaurant it offers AMAZING Mexican food. I've heard of people driving anywhere from 2 to 3 hours just for this food, I'm lucky enough to live within minutes :) As soon as you step in it's like going back in time.. from the cash register, to the Coca-Cola bottles, to the popcorn ceiling and the little trinkets on the counter. Everything looks like its been there for decades. If you get to peek into the kitchen as you go get you seats, you can see the cooks slowly moving around in the kitchen (these sweet old ladies, all look like "grandma's" and you know no one can top a Grandma's cooking!) The service is great... very friendly, fast and easy on your pocket. but the FOOD, omg.. the food is to die for. :)

This out of the way, hole in the wall is worth the effort. I have been going here for 30 years and the special quesadillas rock! Funky homemade Imperial Valley charm, generous portions and inexpensive!

This Place has unbelieveable mexican food it is great some of the best I have had. but I just can't get over how bad the apperance run down building and cheap tables It is gross
