Akai Hana, San Diego

I enjoy the selection of fresh seafood at the sushi counter. They carry a wide range of fish and shellfish, even sometimes selling hard-to-find delicacies. The sushi chefs are knowledgeable and friendly. My problem lies with the other wait staff. They are often slow and sometimes forget orders. The host staff up front are consistently some of the worst I've ever encountered. They are often rude, ignoring customer questions and allowing customers to wait at the front while they catch up on text messages on their phones. If it weren't for the wait staff, I'd go to Shien of Osaka much more often.

Best terriyaki chicken I have ever had and the salad that comes with it has an amazing dressing. Servings are huge and definitely worth the trip.....plus it's a great deal at a great price. I have been going there for over 10 years and I've never had a bad experience there. I would recommend it to all. Now living out of town, eating at Shien is the one thing I HAVE to do every time I visit. Enjoy!!

Ever since I moved to San Diego, its been very difficult to find a good Japanese Restaurant. When I found out about this place, I just had to try it and boy was it thee best!!! The teriyaki steak & chicken is so good...grilled to perfection. The tempura is excellent and the miso is just right. And the steamed rice is always perfect. The next trip there I plan to try the bento lunch. What a great bargin! Dinner is a little more pricey so I reccomend trying it at lunch time :-)...a perfect place whether or not you like sushi. There's something for everyone!

Read most of the great reviews for this restaurant from this site and decided to check out this restaurant. I did not aware the restaurant colsed at Sunday so I actually make two trips for the food. The Sushi is ok fresh, not fresh fresh. Quality of the fish is average and not great. The Sushi rice is poor in quality. The chef shold know the quality of the sushi rice is as importnat as the fresh fish, otherwise why we call it sushi and not sashimi over rice?

I love the sushi, entrees, and appetizers, its a little pricy tho.

I have been to $200 sushi restaurants and I liked this one better. If my car broke down on the way there I would walk, it's that good! I learned about it from a Japanese foreign exchange student in my high school. It is her favorite restaurant too!

Reservations will eliminate a possible wait. A moderately upscale atmosphere for a Japanese place. A little pricey, but the food is top notch. This place is always high on my list when thinking of Japanese food.

If you like sushi, come here and you will love it. The fish is so fresh, it practically melts in your mouth. They, of course, serve more than just sushi but I haven't tried it since I wouldn't give up a chance for the excellent sushi. It's a bit pricey but defintiely worth it. Make sure you get a reservation or be prepared to wait.

I have been eating at Shiens for about a year now, and my husband and I LOVE it. I have taken my 14 year old twins there, and they have fallen in love with sushi. There isn't often a wait, but if there is, wait, its worth it! The best sushi I've ever had! Infact, I'm off to go to lunch there now :) ENJOY!
