Donovan's - La Jolla, San Diego

Would I say that Donovan's is the BEST steakhouse in San Diego? No. I would however say it is very good. The prices are a bit expensive, but to be expected for a higher-end restaurant. The wait staff are very attentive. There is a lively crowd at the bar/waiting area. The food has been very good every time I have been here. I would recommend Donovan's to everyone.

ALL I can say is that they SUCK !!! all the way around HIGH PRICE , yes the steak was good as little as it was and I mean LITTLE and this is a STEAKHOUSE , my wife and I got there special that night what a RIP OFF!! I waited and waited for my dinner on a thursday at 6:00pm, left at 9:30pm still hungry,the waiter was a nice guy and don't want to take it out on him, NOW I been to MORTONS down town NOW THATS A STEAKHOUSE I guess they spoiled me so keep your money and go to MORTONS P.S. we were a group of four and we all have the same opinion of DONOVAN'S La Jolla :-(

We also experienced the worst dinner here. The steak was good, but the manager's words were the worst. My daughter started coughing in the restaurant, probably because of its air; my daughter is allergic to dusts. The manager said 'you have disturbed other guests' and when I told him that we would leave soon, he seemed satisfied. I have never got such a heartless attitude anywhere in the world. I feel very sorry for cooks who make very good steaks, but we would never go there again. I really recommend the investors to change the manager.

I have to dispute the previous review. The service I have had at Donovan's has been great and even one time our reservations were messed up and they sent a limo to pick us up at thier expense and STILL honored the time of our original reservation (I called two days prior to confirm the reservation and thats when they found the glitch). Wonderful people and wonderful food.

I must say, this restaurant is really overrated ! The service is weak, the steaks rather bland, and the attitude of the staff is substandard. I always find Island Prime, Mortons and even Ruths Chris Del Mar far superior. If you are thinking about going there, all I can say is don't bother. BUT, I do think they have done a great job of marketing the place to out of towners...

Upon being told we were heading to the #1 Steakhouse in San Diego, I was excited to say the least. Steaks were above average, wine list great. But, my Dad, the human garbage can, came in from Florida ate salad, steak and potatoes. The next day he felt like he was going to die. Ruined his whole vacation. He called to tell them, they apologized and were never to br heard from again. Best steakhouse in SD? No chance....steaks are better at Flemings....

Best in town! Enjoyed the food and service again! We plan on returning often.
