Today I was forced to look up a late night eatery and decided to try out somthing other than papa johns and carl jr.s. and as such called etna restaurant and pizza house and ordered a simple peperoni and cheese pizza.I hate to say that I spent 10 min placing an order only to have the guy taking my order abruptly hang up on. I remind you this was after him being short with me because he was unable to upsell me on a soda. It gets worse,... the delivery guys shows up an hour and a half after I place my order when the guy taking my oder says it should be there any shortly as they are currently slow. The delivery driving not only showed up to my house rediculously late but shows up with out my pizza trying to pawn off someone else's. NO THANKS! The frantic driver flees from my house to rescue my pizza from some other family in the mean time I get to deal with hungry pissed off teens. This guy comes back 20min later to bring me a cold pizza. AINT THAT SWELL! NOT! The guy still charges me full price and still gets away with a tip. I much rather have not spent the 20bucks on a bs pizza still lacks taste, decent ingredients, and comes COLD! LESSON LEARNED! DO NOT EAT HERE! THERE IS BETTER PIZZA AT A FRACTION OF THE COST ALL OVER SAN DIEGO! I would amost pay for a pizza for papa johns for anyboyd jus to not eat hear. I HOPE SOME HUNGRY TASTEBUDELESS PERSON SALVAGES THIS CRAP IN A PIZZA BOX FROM MY HOUSE!
For all the people that gave this place less than 4 starts I wonder what good italian is to them, because this food was great, maybe where they eat it is wonderful. We ordered a torpedo came with very good chips, half and half lag/spag came with garlic bread and a salad and a special pizza, very very good food, taste, not greasy, the spices used were not excessive, just great food all around
After reading the reviews I decided to try this place out myself. Omg let me tell you that I am soooo happy I did. Me and my boyfriend have eaten at Etnas 3 days in a row now..it IS that good. I'm very picky about my food and this is one of the best restaurants period that I've had in a long time. Definately a good find!
Looks like Albert Myles was trying to get the classic free meal deal and in the process discredit one of the best restaurants in San Diego. I first ate at Etna's back in 1984 and still consider it in the top 10 best pasta joints in the nation. The food is authentic and portions very gracious. I too must admit, the area has declined over the years, but that should not stop you from experiencing a very delicious meal. I no longer live in San Diego, but make it a point to drop by when I am there to have some of the most wonderful pasta dishes Etna has to offer.
Do not lissen to the 3, 1 star reviews there eather makeing pizzas of there own in another shop or there date didnt go as planed or there just bitter ETNA RESTAURANT AND PIZZA HOUSE IS AWSOME!!! 1 of my faverite pizza joints! try it sometime
I've been going to Etna's for years. The food has always been better than average. The reviews raving about the pizza crust are all true. Its really good! I particularly like their lunch buffet which is pretty much everything on the menu! Its a nice low key date place where you can order a liter and settle in for the evening after a good meal. Its across the street from a very large high school which can sometimes make mid day dining a challenge. The location is in a part of San Diego that is not particularly safe any more, but thats a reflection on the city, not the restaurant. Just keep your eyes open and be aware of your surroundings, especially at night. Its worth the visit.
