A delight for vegetarians, the menu offers a full line of choices. The top-selling soup is Tom Kah (coconut soup with shrimp). We tried Royal Thai finally, after living here awhile. Where to begin? The food...worse than disappointing...nearly inedible.....the Pad Thai was burnt badly. The place smelled awful, like burnt hair, the night we were in. The waitress literally had her ipod plugged in, and at one point defiantly looked me in the eye while wailing away to her music, folding napkins while our drink glasses sat empty. Terrible service, very rude too. Food overpriced, I've even eaten Thai in Amarillo Texas and Royal Thai was the WORST I've ever had. I can't believe that Newport Beach tolerates this crappy restaurant. It spoke volumes that we were in there on sunday night, and we were one of only three tables. Most likely, being in a high profile spot in a resort area, they rely on a fresh supply of suckers. Don't go...you'll be so glad you ate somewhere else. PS They have Thai cooking classes? LOL! To teach you how to make terrible Thai food to alienate your friends?

this is one of the nicest thai restaurant i have ever been to. the papaya salad is the best i have tried so far in california, i thought Osha's salad was good but this was better. and their service was superb, very nice and friendly staff and not expensive at all. You have to go here.

I was there over Valentines and me and my date had a great dinner, I enjoyed their Tom Yum Khun soup (spicy!!) and my favorite... chicken in green curry with fagrant rice was a winning combination. Their Thai beer is not bad and if you don't drink try the Thai Iced Tea. Would fully reccomend this place.

A Royal Experience
By ,
Found this location as one of many listings of Thai restaurants, and wanted to enjoy one for dinner with a gentleman friend who was visiting from out of town. Checked out their website and menu beforehand, and liked wide selection. Easy to find in Gaslamp Quarter, decent parking, simple elegance, and outdoor seating available. The service here was outstanding. My date and I were greeted warmly, seated promptly and our orders taken from a very knowledgable and sociable waiter, who was easily available if we needed anything. We ordered Thai Iced Tea and one of the combination dinners for two (the Queen's Banquet, I believe), which was more than enough and quite delicious; we had plenty left over to take home afterward! The appetizers were wonderful, as was the soup with lemon grass. Definitely will return here and bring more friends as it was a pleasure to enjoy this establishment, and I am sure I will make it one of my new favorites. Enjoy!
