La Terrazza Ristorante, Coronado

This was by far the worst meal I have ever had in my life. The restaurant we wanted to go to was an hour wait. My family and I decided to check out another place down the street. We walked half a block and was immediately enticed by the stairs leading up to this mystical restaurant. We were seated immediately (red flag) and decided on calamari for the appetizer( it seemed like a good choice because we were located on the ocean) Bad bad mistake, it was frozen, dry, and fishy. The waiter asked us with a full plate of calamari if we were finished with app( red flag 2-they were use to people returning food without finishing it). Our main course came very quickly after (btw they were out of items on the menu) (red flag 3). My raviolis in a mushroom cream sauce were gritty, tasteless, and the sauce was revolting. My fathers was the same we did not eat any of it and left a full plate. Next up my boyfriends cajun pasta and chicken was frozen, rancid, and disgusting, he did not eat it. And lastly my poor mothers canned clam pasta, terrible! We left 4 entire plates of costly food, paid the entire bill in full, and thanked god we did not get sick. Do not eat here unless your just going for the quick service. Microwaves reheat the food pretty fast.

Food was great, although I'm not italian and therefore not the best to judge if it is authentic. Service was fantastic!! Everyone in the restaurant was so polite. Most importantly, however, is what was found in the women's bathroom. The walls are covered in gold writing with the most beautiful words ever! I honestly was so lame that I wrote them down and asked the owner about them, I'm a hopeless romantic in that way! Anyways, the owner told me that the words have been there since she bought the restaurant but she thought they were so pretty she didn't want to paint over them. She further explained that since then she's had several brides call and ask her to send her the words so they could be part of the wedding. Even if you're not hungry, just go there to read the writing :)

The food is pretty good but not worthy of 5 stars. I would give it a 4 1/2 if I could though. A classy atmosphere but there's nowhere to park. I had to walk about 5 blocks. Gary

Simply by accident did I discover this mgnificent restaurant. My wife and I were so dismayed with the Hotel Del that we ventured down the street and just took a chance at stopping in at Tomaso's Ristorante. We were greeted on the sidewalk with a warm and friendly smile from the Hostess who directed us to the upper level. Edmundo kindly asked us where we would like to sit and dine and gave us some options on a crisp and clear night. As we were seated on the patio Manual greeted us as though we were family and offereed us a heater if needed. I suggested that He pick out the wine for us after we gave him our menue choices and I have to tell you his choice was magnificient. As it turned out Ristorante Tomaso has the same owner as another fine retaurant right next to where we live in Carlsbad named Tuscany.I can't thank the staff of this restaurant enough to reward them for their exceptional service, attitude, and warmth that they demonstrated to us.

Last night, my wife and I found one of the true gems of Coronado. As a native Chicagoan, I'm well-acquanted with great Italian restaurants and Ristorante Tomaso easily meets those standards. Sitting on the patio (excellent setting) on a cool evening, we enjoyed impeccable service and a meal that will bring us back to this wonderful restaurant. The food (I had Canneloni, my wife had Veal Marsala) was better than anything I've had in a long time. It seems that Tomaso's put it's money in the food and service rather than glitzy advertising campaigns---

We had dinner there the week of 8/1/09. View was nice outside on the deck. Expensive for the quality of the food and service. They are definitely targeting the tourist crowd. We brought kids and I wouldn't recommend doing the same due to long service time. Note: this restaurant has a much more affordable lunch menu offering pizzas. We had to request the waiter for this menu to order pizzas because the dinner menu didn't offer it. The pizza was very good. They really increase their prices and selections for dinner.

I always enjoy this place, love the food, always feel pampered whether it's lunch on the patio or dinner in the dining room... I rode my bike there once to dine on the patio on a beautiful Saturday and they had me bring my bike up in the elevator and park it on the side deck... their prix fixe is well thought out and just enough... and the prices make this place an excellent value...

What a wonderful experience. The food, atmosphere and service were all well above expectations. The eggplant Tortino was tender and the sauce and cheese were outstanding. My husband enjoyed a seafood dish and was equally impressed. We will return often and have recommended this jewel to our friends and family.

I took my mother and my niece here for dinner last night expecting great things. While the food was good, the waiter was a pompous jerk. I ordered one of the pasta specials, which included gnocchi with a gorgonzola fettucine sauce. I took one bite of it and it tasted bad. I took another bite to double check and it tasted the same, so I called the waiter over. While he took the plate he insulted me when he said that perhaps I did not know what gnocchi should taste like. I told him that I didn't think it was the gnocchi, but I thought it was perhaps the sauce. He brought me another plate without the gnocchi, and when I asked what the chef had said, he told me that perhaps I didn't know what gorgonzola tasted like and was not familiar with it. Unfortunately, I do know what gorgonzola should taste like and I know that it normally does not taste bad. I was insulted by the waiter and his insinuations that I was a red-neck that did not know what fine Italian food should taste like. I did not even receive an apology. While the food was decent, I would not eat here again due to the arrogance of the waiter.
