The best sushi in San Diego. Be sure to ask what they have that is not on the menu. The freshest uni anywhere. I had eaten sushi for years before hearing about Sushi Ota, and I realized I had never really had good sushi. Order Omakase and turn the chef loose and you will surely be impressed. They seem to love to try to outdo each other. Be sure to get a reservation if you want to sit at the bar. Watching the chefs work is very impressive.

I own Pacific Beach Delivery in PB, and had heard positive reviews on Kyoto Sushi from being constantly involved in restaurant conversation! We walked into the restaurant to be instantly greated by a friendly staff and (best part) "free sake!" I automatically new I liked ths place! We sat up at the bar, and Mike the owner was the man! Made Killer Sushi, and let me & my date try some fun stuff for laughs! Ex: Roe & Quail Eggs!:) Was a great time! You Have to try the Gavin Roll! I believe they are making it after me as a special!:)

The double double was phenomenal. Sort of out of the way location, in a strip mall, but worth the trip.

I eat sushi around the world. 28 points on food?? Overrated. Sushi bar may be up to 26 points max. Total disappointment at the table tonight, toro is even a little unfresh. Lobster dynamite is a total disaster, $27 for imitation crab meat and 4 pieces of small burnt lobster tails. Compare to sushi restaurant around the country (the world) food may be 25 to 26 only.

Had omakase for two at Ota last night. Needless to say, it was incredible. six courses (with one soup course, and one hot course) that were really really good. matsutakes, kumamotos... it was all wonderful. I have eaten at other 28s (daniel, le bernardin, etc.) and the food at Ota is definitely on par. but the thing is, you must sit at the sushi bar. sitting at a table at Ota is a completely different experience. taste-wise and service-wise.

Sushi Ota is YUMMY!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/5/09
It looks like a hole in the wall (it's next door to a planned parenthood), but the sushi is amazingly fresh and tasty! Be sure to make reservations :) Whether at the bar or table, the food comes out fast. The people that work here are helpful and friendly. Yellowtail, Chu Toro, O Toro, Salmon sashimi, sweet shrimp, some rolls, fried rice, miso soup, all very delicious!! Be careful though, it's easy to spend a lot!!

A cut above the ordinary sushi, this way out-of-the-way Japanese near Pacific Beach offers very fresh (sweet shrimp, served with deep-fried heads over bowl of ponzu) and less-common sushi (mantis shrimp--hybrid flavor of crab and shrimp) at reasonable prices (Omakase is a good value); the fish tasted fresh, but somehow seemed rather flavorless.
