Broken Yolk Cafe - Pacific Beach
This long-time and often crowded favorite now has four locations in San Diego, all of them offering the masterly omelets which have made the cafe famous. Other classic but high-calorie favorites include a rich Eggs Benedict and a Monte Cristo Sandwich made with grilled French toast. The bright, homey atmosphere includes an outdoor patio to catch some extra California sunshine on those sunny-side up eggs. Lunchtime offers hamburgers, soups, and more breakfast if you're so inclined. Brave and foolish? Try the gimmicky dozen-egg omelet. - deTraci Regula
Pros: AWESOME FOOD! Really good selection on the menu, Good prices too. Personal Fav - Build your own omelette & Pomegranite Mimosa! Staff was friendly and nice. Great outdoor patio upstairs, & good location.
Cons: Server messed up my order, and it took a really long for them to replace it.
They did take it off the bill though! :)
If it came down to Harry's in La Jolla and Broken Yolk, I'd go with Harry's. No question. Broken Yolk definitely opened my eyes to breakfast again, but the awkward service, difficult location, and parking makes makes it hard to recommend over Harry's.
I say the service is awkward because it takes a while to be served and it takes a while to pay. Once you receive your bill, you'll likely have to stand in a line at the front register. More often than not we've found that the utensils were not cleaned thoroughly. We also experienced lackluster service as waiters/waitresses were slow to respond... granted the place is usually very busy.
Love it! The last 2 times my boyfriend and I were in San Diego, we ate here about 4 to 5 times... and we were only in San Diego for 3-4 days each time. I'm visiting San Diego right now and plan to go again at least once this trip. The Omelettes are huge, enough for 2 people. I've also tried the banana waffles, strawberry french toast, and the breakfast burrito (no bacon or beans, I'm a vegetarian). The service is FAST and the staff is friendly. This place has a small town feel to it, even though it's busy.
For a breakfast eatery the food was very good and service was quick. I only have one tremendous complaint as far as the furniture on the open patio area. It seems they have invested very little in the cheap plastic chairs they use. Not only are they very uncomfortable, but they have become old and brittle from being outside. I personally ended my meal with a crash to the wall and floor as the brittle sun beaten furniture collapsed. I believe an investment in better furniture would be a wise business decision. So, just be aware where they seat you, but enjoy the food.
I'm telling you this is THE best restaurant to go to if you want a good breakfast! They do it right every single time.
I encourage you to chill on the rooftop patio in the California sun with your friends (especially if you've had a long Friday night) and have some of the best Eggs Benedict you've ever brought to your mouth and a mimosa. That of course is my personal favorite. However, if you enjoy omlets of any kind they can make it best!! They also have very tasty waffles, pancakes, fruitboats and almost anything else you'd like for breakfast.
I have yet to try their lunch selections but if they are anything like the breakfast you love it so much it'll almost make you wanna slap somebodys momma. Ha!
i have had the pleasure of visiting this establishment on a few occasions with friends...we never have to wait for a table. If You decide to stop in on sunday for breakfast..prepare for a long wait..but its worth it! its a nice little spot in PB where one can just kick back and relax with friends over some good food. service is good and the atmosphere is pleasant!
