El Indio Mexican Restaurant

Description

The fact that El Indio, a family-owned restaurant has been serving up good, authentic Mexican food since 1940, speaks volumes. Eating here says it all. Start the day with a breakfast burrito. A plate of chicken or beef taquitos or anything else on the menu for that matter is delicious. The prices are unbelievably low with many items USD8 or less. A festive indoor atmosphere is available, but most guests prefer to dine on one of the two outdoor patios.

I seen this place on the Food Network and figured i would try it out with my family, and we were far from impressed. Not one of us finished our food on our plates and halkf of us took a couple bites and it was over. Not one thing on everyone's plate had any flavor. the rice taste like the beans, and the tortillas were super greasy. Machaca beef and chicken literally had not one bit of flavor. The chili rellano my mother said was the worst she ever ate. It had cheddar chesse inside a fat batter and very little chili. The cheese didn't even melt inside, and she couldn't take but three bites. We all through our food away and my nephew even asked to go to taco bell on the way home because it is better food. I do not usually write reviews but the Food Network must have made alot of money to lie about this restraunt. I can think of at least 5 places within 5 miles that are authentic mexican food...not anything like this place.

We come to San Diego often from Las Vegas and El Indio has never disappointed us. The burritos and Taquitos are delicious. You can't go wrong with the chips and salsa. Tortillas made fresh everyday. El Indio has its own parking, beer & is kid friendly. Try the carnitas burrito. The customer service can be bad unless a young guy named Will helps you, so save yourself the trouble and try to order with him (though I haven't seen him in a while). The cashiers usually make mistakes so make sure you check your receipt! Overall, I would recommend.

We were visiting from Australia and our friends recommeded this place. We had 2 kids with us and we all found something great to eat. Not the sort of food we have here so we we all had something different - very clean and reasonably priced foot. We'll go back (if we can locate it again!).

Drove all the way from Murrieta just to eat lunch to this place. Well of course I saw it on food network show. I am so dissappointed, there is really nothing special about this place. I ordered chili relleno, they used cheddar cheese ..YYYUUUUKKKKKK!!! Its busy just because there is a lot of business around and the closest place to eat. they probably have good tortilla but food is just normal mexican food.

When I lived in San Diego, I lived right up the hill from El Indio (up until a job took me to Virginia in 92) and I would always go to El Indio. They always had wonderful food and when I last went back to San Diego in 2006 it was still as wonderful as I remembered it. Also, whoever said the place wasn't clean it could have been an off day because any time I was there it was spotless and believe me, I have high standards where cleanliness is concerned. I would give anything to still live in San Diego and have access to such wonderful Mexican food. You don't know or appreciate what you have until it's gone - that's for sure. Ciao!

I don't know why anyone eats in this place, it has to be one of the worst Mexican Restaurants in San Diego (and I've tried many Mexican Restaurants)! The place is dirty, overpriced, and they serve your food on disposable plastic plates with plastic forks and knives, so it's like paying for full-service and getting mediocre fast food. If you really want to try EXCELLENT Mexican fast-food, go across the street (next to the Chevron Gas Station) to Luche Libre's, their mole is to die for, and their California Burrito is delicious (and they use good quality cuts of meat, white-meat chicken, etc, no cheap stuff like El Indio does). And no, I don't work for or own any restaurants, but I do dine out frequently.
