Description

The word "Hodad" is a slang term used to describe a surfer "wanna-be." A hodad may own a surfboard and may even haul that board to the beach, yet never actually surfs. This joint has character, surfing character, with surfing memorabilia covering the walls and a jukebox playing appropriate tunes. Guests experience a surf dream world at this Ocean Beach establishment. For an extra treat, try sitting in the booth constructed from the front of a VW bus. Now THIS is Southern California!

This Place defines the American Cheeseburger. It's usually hoppin, sometimes usually a line, but they do a good job of getting the food out so you don't wait long. Onion rings are Bomb too. It's a deff must stop if your there in OB.

First off let me state that I love a good burger just as much as anybody and I am always on a quest for a great one. I heard of Hodads and how great it was and thought... Hmmm... I have to try it! Well I must say, it was extremely disappointing. This place was not good at all, you get a tiny burger under a head of lettuce, a pile of tomatoes, pickles etc... basically an entire family size salad. Not sure how anyone can even rate the burger which you can't even taste under all of the other stuff. I ended up removing most of the toppings and yep, my thoughts were correct, the burger wasn't very good, guess they are hiding that under the salad for a reason. About a half hour after leaving I had a blazing stomach ache, no surprise there. The atmosphere was cool, but the food was uncool.... I would not waste my time or money on this place, there are FAR BETTER burger joints in San Diego.....

omg, you have to get the cheeseburger with extra cheese and be sure and add bacon! I know it sounds like a heart attack on a plate, but trust me it's worth it! Oh, and be sure and get the ranch dressing with your french fries!

Possibly the best burger in the universe. Seating is not easy to find and they always seem busy so its best not to be in a rush.

This place had an awesome feel to it, definitely a a legit surfer burger joint. Their burger and shakes are awesome too, the only downside is that it can get PACKED. Get there at on a weekday at a non-busy time and it's decent, don't go during lunch time or after work.

I'm not a full Hodad-- only half. Can't surf, love hanging out at the beach... Well, anyway. If you want a great burger on the beach, this is the place to be. Don't expect anything too fancy though.

good burger but overrated. i was expecting much more the first time I went. Rocky's in PB is much better. Rocky's only has fries though (no rings) and you can't get bacon at Rocky's. If you are looking for a good thin patty with 5 times more produce than meat then Hodad's is your place. I would skip it for Rocky's though.

Hodad's is blah compared to In N Out!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/23/10
Ahh...waiting more than 30+ minutes in line for burgers, fries, and onion rings and it's not In-N-Out, then there's something wrong there. The burgers were overcooked, thus dry on the inside; the order of french fries w/ onion rings were great though. But the menu is very limited and I would have preferred the meat be better seasoned.

Great burger!!! Great rings!!! Nice beer selection. Best strawberry milkshake I've had in years. Love the decor. Don't pass this up if you're in OB.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/10/10
Ever since i was a kid Hodad's has been my go to place when I crave an awesome burger! The onion rings are to die for and the shakes are from heaven. Everytime I have out of town guests I take them to Hodad's and they end up being fan's for life!
