H O R R I B L E at best ! You California folks wouldn't know good food if it bit you. DO NOT waste your hard earned $$$ Small chickens and rather tasteless --- what a letdown after waiting all that time in line.

DOG FOOD!!!! This food is not even fit to feed a dog! My dog eats better than this! The food is way over priced and over ranked! Save your money, I am sure you could do better at home. Nasty service and staff along with the food that has no flavor or love in it. Simply another McDonalds

Its not what it used to be. I first ate there back in 99 when they were on Goldfinch. We would eat there in the afternoon for lunch. Back then the food was delicious, properly cooked and the timing was right for the wait. I went to the new place last year and it kinda sucks now. I agree with some of the comments, its way to noisy, the food is burnt, the broham is not what it used to look like or even taste like. The food is very low now, the service is okay. The place reminds me of a factory more than a restaraunt, they food is made the same way. If it was a car there would be call backs. The place has lost its character and love for the food it used to serve. Back in the day they a had this one big african american guy that most of the grilling, hell it was fun just to watch him! That guy would tell you if it wasn't ready, he wouldn't serve it. That place now is way to fast, and with the wait in line for about 30 minutes its not worth it. I would rather wait and have my food grilled the right way instead of eating a broham that taste like grease and soft meat. Not downing the guy he has truely done well, he has followers that are loyal no matter what the food taste like, so you can't knock it. But he really needs to do things they way they were, when Phil's was the bomb! Another thing, I have met people that have worked for him in the past. They say he can be really abusive towards his employees, and he pays them crap. Well hell that's part of the problem right there. He has made his money and ran with it, while the food becomes 3rd. hand food. You are better off grilling at home...

We have been to Phil's two times and it is not worth the wait or the price. After half an hour in line, we finally got a table and got some bbq chicken served picnic style. The chicken and my husband's dinner was just mediocre and we had a party of four people breathing down our necks waiting to snap up our table before we finished. The second time we went at lunch time, there was not such a wait but the food is nothing to write home about. They don't even have beef brisket. Try Li'l. Piggy's BBQ down at the Coronado ferry landing. Better food, less waiting time and nicer view to look at.

I have been to Phil's twice. The first time, noisey, and I could not enjoy my meal. The place was jammed. Second time, we got in line, waited about 10 minutes, sat in the bar at a table, had a nice gentleman help us with everything, drank a nice beer with my meal, much better time. The food has always been so good, I am salivating just writing this. My son-in-law has a place in Los Angeles that he says is better, but Phil's baby back ribs got his eyebrow up, which means, they were the bomb. He is hard to please. I would go back, no matter how long the wait, and if I decided to leave, I would do so reluctantly. Last time I went the line was around the corner of the building and all the way down to the next corner. I would not wait that long, but a person can always call ahead and get a better place in line. If you call ahead no line, just walk in and your table is waiting. Use some sense and your experience will be better every time.

We are from Las Vegas, NV. We went to Phil's BBQ last month. We are going to San Diego just to eat at Phil's BBQ this weekend. My husband and I enjoyed the baby back ribs and the barbeque sauce was excellent and the onion rings are the bomb.

Amazing and worth the wait!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/14/10
Amazing BBQ, pulled pork sandwich is terrific. Ribs are to die for and all the sides are terrific. Always super busy but worth the wait time. Sometimes the lines is around the building but it is still worth the wait.
