Mama's Bakery and Lebanese Deli
The Mama's Bakery and Lebanese Deli continues to flourish year after year because of its great reputation by word of mouth. You will find kafta, falafel, zaatar, shawarma and various chicken dishes cooked to your highest standards here. Many people pick up one of these sandwiches on a weekly, if not daily basis. Though you will need to order your favorite items at the counter, there is a delightful little outdoor patio where you can enjoy your meal. No alcohol is served. Catering services are offered.
I LOVE mamas...it's my favorite place to eat of all time. I'm from San Diego but now live in San Francisco and whenever I'm home to visit, I have to go and get a wrap. I wish there was a mamas in s.f. but until then I'll just keep coming back for more.
I don't know much about Lebanese food but all my Arab friends I have taken there have been happy to find a place that has authentic flavor. For those losers who rated it low well no of course it's not a restaurant with a nice ambiance, it's a hole in the wall kind of place where you find good food! I agree the pita is not the greatest, but if you want good pita go to a GREEK RESTAURANT! this is a Lebanese restaurant!
P.S. you have to try the Manakeesh...
I heard about this place from my neighbor, and I've told so many people about it in turn. This is the best Lebanese food outside of Lebanon -- trust me; I know...this is the way tabbouleh is supposed to taste! I haven't had anything here I haven't liked; be sure to top your meal off with a cup of Turkish coffee and a piece of baklava. Enjoy!
First and last time I went a friend raved about the place.
we got bad service, not nice, food was late....and at the end I decided to not leave the tip....hey the service stunk! But they decided to take their tip right out by over charging my credit card! The nerve! I decided to let it go as it was only a few bucks....but still....Will never go there again and never have!
Well, my mama cooks equally well... But Mama's Bakery is probably one of the best food places in San Diego. As a native, i've had a long time to eat lots of good and bad food here, and Mama's NEVER disappoints. Always fresh. Always quality. Great Prices. I usually get the Beef Shawarma Sandwich but have also been known to get the Chicken Garlic Sandwich (which comes with raw garlic paste - potent but delicious).
The owners are lovely people, and chances are one of them will be taking orders at the cash register.
Great place for fast food that is way above the usual fare. Wonderful flat bread. Open air seating, informal, finding parking close by can be an issue when it's busy. Well worth the search, specially if you're on a budget, but even if you're not it's a yummy place.
