G5-Georges on Fifth

Description

Located in the Victorian-era Louis Bank of Commerce Building (the previous tenants included gunslinger Wyatt Earp's saloon), this restaurant is owned by former San Diego mayor and talk show host Roger Hedgecock. But can he cook? No need to worry. Television's "Chef Larry" Banares is handling the cuisine, which mixes Roger's mother's favorites along with Larry's own "San Diego Cuisine," resulting in a localized Pacific Rim menu with Yankee overtones. Try the Nouveau Meatloaf, served with ancho chile ketchup.

We look forward tor returning
By Andrew, 9/14/05
This is a nice place without the pretensiousness of the typical Gaslamp restaurants. The staff is friendly and the food is excellent. There is no need to feel rushed, and nobody looks down upon you if you don't dress to impress. It's not necessarily cheap, but its cheaper than many other places that offer fewer choices and lower quality food.

Amazing
My boyfriend and I went to G5 on a whim and were blown away by the food quality. I started with a beef carpaccio that was so tender it melted in my mouth. We proceeded to split a porterhouse fit for kings. The fillet side was lean while the strip side was perfectly marbled. I reccomend this restaurant to anyone seeking a wonderful night out with some really excellent food.

New Year's Eve Dinner
By Maris, 1/29/05
I decided to give George's on Fifth a try when some friends planned to eat in the Gaslamp Quarter before going dancing. We were seated in a quiet location and it was perfect. I ordered the liguini with lobster. The sauce was divine and there was as much lobster meat as pasta--now how many restaurants give you that? Two in our group ate steak dishes and said they were excellent. Admittedly, this is not a cheap place to eat, but the service is excellent and so is the food.
