Bandar has the wonderful ability to make everyone feel welcomed and comfortable and fill you with delicious Persian cuisine at a very reasonable price. Each dish is enough to share, but order one for everyone and sample each other s. My favorite is Adas Polo, preceded by the wonderful Bandar salad (the dressing is terrific) and the egg plant appetizer which is to die for.
What a fabulous find! The appetizers were so delicious. They have a combo plate where you can try 4 of the appetizers. A unique twist to the standard hummus (which they also have on the menu) is the hummus guacomole. What a wonderful combination! I also enjoyed the shallot yogurt dip, and the best was their eggplant dip drizzled in yogurt. We ordered 2 more servings of the eggplant appetizer because it was so good! It had lots of garlic, a touch of olive oil, and it tasted almost meaty. By the time the main meal of kabobs arrived, we were all stuffed from the divine dips. We were shocked at the size of the kabobs. They were HUGE! Each piece of meat was atleast 2 oz. As you know most kabobs have bite size pieces, but this was no usual kabob. The chicken was infused with saffron and spices that make my mouth water now just remembering it. The filet mignon kabob was the BEST filet mignon I have ever had and I've eaten a lot of filet mignon at some of the best restaurants in LA. This surpasses them all hands down. I don't know what they marinated the meat in but it tasted so amazing and the beef was so tender, it melted in my mouth. The only thing I wish was that Bandar was in Los Angeles because I was only visiting San Diego and I really want to go back to this restaurant on a regular basis. This place was just excellent. The service and atmosphere were great too. There is a parking garage across the street too for convienant parking in the gaslamp district.
my wife and i went to bandar for our wedding anniversary and had a fabulous night. the service was incredible, the food outstanding (we had the eggplant appetizer, bandar salad and adas polo - sumptuous)
Bandar is in my top 5 restaurants in San Diego. My favorite plate is the chicken kabob which never disappoints. One thing that I want to people to know is that you better come hungry.
Bandar portions are generous and the food is very flavorful. Also, the service staff is very attentive and the prices are reasonable. The decoration is elegant, yet low key which allows customers to enjoy a comfortable meal and carry on conversations.
Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the mood for exotic cuisine and great atmosphere.
We went to this restaurant for the first time mid-week. The food was good, although the salmon was a tad too dry.
One thing I resented was that the waiter was unwilling to substitute a small pot of humus instead of the butter. He was asked twice to do this and refused twice, asking us instead to buy the large humus platter. As it was we took food home. And there we come to the second complaint: It was exceedingly difficult to receive adequate sized containers for the left-overs.
Hopefully the owner will see this and make some small changes?
In other restaurants we generally encounter a waiter desirous to please. This was not the case at Bandar.
The restaurant was beautifully decorated. The food was good but far from spectacular, particularly for the price. Portions were ridiculously large - enough for 2-3 adults easily. A heads up from the server about the portion sizes would have been nice. The service was not only impersonal, but downright rude. We had set our doggie bags with at least half the food we ordered leftover on the adjacent table chair for a moment (in a 4/5 empty restaurant) to have our picture taken and a waiter walked off with them without a word to us even when we tried to get his attention. We were able to retrieve our doggy bags evenutally but I didn't like having to chase him down to do it and with no apology or explanation from him when we did. All in all, disappointing.
Lets get real here. It is no secret that 99% of these negative comments are posted by jealous competitors. Bandar restaurant is truly famous in San Diego for their chicken shish kabobs (and other items). They have literally won hundreds of awards from local magazines and restaurant critics for both their food and their service. Do yourself a favor and try this restaurant, the food and service are excellent, the prices are reasonable and the quantities are generous. What more could you want? As for the negative reviewers, why don't you spend your time improving your business and stop wasting time trying to damage a true culinary institution.
AWFUL. The food was dry (and overpriced!) and the service was very unfriendly. When i went in, the owners were there but were being completely rude to their employees and I overheard the hostesses talking about the fake reviews they write about Bandar on yelp and laughing about it...
I would never go back.... if you want to try much better tasting persian food (without the attitude) I would definitely recommend Sadaf on 5th.
the hostest is the daughter of the resturant and really believes that its your privelige to be eating at this resturant. The waiters are not prfessional and the lighting is so bad that you can hardely see the food. Thats because the Kabob is always raw on the inside and they dont want you to see the food. The food overall is ok but the services is Terrible and the Prices are outrageous.
