Description

Filippi's Pizza Grotto is one of the most beloved Italian restaurants in San Diego. Its pizza has been highly acclaimed since first being served more than 50 years ago. The front of the restaurant is an Italian shop selling dried pasta, wines, candy, canned goods and olives, and a deli selling Italian sausages and cheese. After passing through this aromatic area, one is led to the restaurant itself. The chefs here dish up all the classics including lasagne, spaghetti and meatballs, ravioli and more. Imported and domestic wine and beer is available.

Filippi's Pizza knows that they make such a DRY, (lacking of) tomato sauce "Meatball Sandwich." That choked me, via the last 2 meatballs. As I had to (no sic) form my own mucus, just to get those meatballs swallowed. (no I didn't have a drink; I was not obligated to. The dry sandwich was not an expectation.) At their "Kearny Mesa" location. That "Filippi's Pizza Grotto" had my review removed off YAHOO.

Just went there tonight and I wonder what it is people are so happy about here. The pizza was underdone, flavorless dough, thin watery sauce, hardly any pepperoni. I made the mistake of ordering a large thinking I would have lunch tomorrow. I ate 2 pieces and left the rest. The waitress asked how it was and when I told her it was horrible, just said she was sorry and brought our check. The place was packed. Maybe I am too used to good food.

Home away from home!

I have been going to Fillipi's since I was a teenager, now my daughter is a teenager and she loves it even more so. Atmosphere is beautiful and the employees are outstanding! Little Italy has grown soooo much!

Cool pizza place to eat at

I came here with a group of friends. We all shared a couple pizzas and a bottle of wine and ended up having a great time. It's definitely something I would plan to do again in the near future. There are so many great pizza places out there, this is one to add near the top of the list.

Have not found a bad item on the menu. The prime rib rivals any steak house in town and the marinara sauce is the best in town.

During the summer the restaurant is extremely hot no AC, no parking, long wait, resroom always dirty, services is from 1 to 10, 5 and Italians upppppppppppppppppsss
