Many restaurants in Little Italy have become destinations, among them the Busalacchi family's Trattoria Fantastica. The rustic decor features a relaxed country-style feel throughout the restaurant, including the delightful patio. The wonderfully welcoming atmosphere celebrates yet another delicious Sicilian food lineup, including pizzas and all that you would expect from an authentic Italian menu. The terrific entrees show the Sicilian influence, and fill the restaurant with great aromas. We would love to hear your feedback on your experience.
Had dinner there on Saturday night. Place was packed .. we took this as a good sign and put our name on the list. We waited about 20 minutes and then were were given a table outside.
It was all downhill from there. The waiter did not greet us for 15 minutes! Our water was refilled three times before he finally showed up. I usually have a eight minute rule. If someone does not greet the table in eight minutes I bail. I see it as a sign of things to come. I was willing to give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt. Big mistake.
We ordered our drinks, apps and dinner all at the same time (who know when we would see the waiter again). It is a good thing we did. That was the last time he came by the table except when it came time to pay. The rest of the time he was busy flirting with the hostess. He spent the entire night chatting with her. I have had bad service in the past; however this way by FAR the worst. We waited 20 minutes for the check. We finally had to go ask another employee to get our bill. I would never eat at this place again if you paid me.
We tried to spend money at this place. We wanted a couple bottles of wine (could not get them), friend wanted a beer (only received his original), wanted to order Gelato but was never offered dessert!
To top if off the food was very band and the inside of my pork was freezing cold!
Stay far far away!
I had my rehersal dinner here in Jan. 2004 and it went perfect! We had so much fun and did not have to worry about a thing! great food and a perfect atmosphere. We had the dinner on the back patio. It did rain, but did not even effect us at all.
I hear the desserts are to die for too!
The only reason service got four instead of five is because I never caught the waiter's name, and he was slow. His timing gave me and my guests time to enjoy the patio where we were seated. We didn't even know we were outside until we looked up and saw the sky. It's very intimate like that.
I'm not sure about my fellow diner's choice of entrees, as I did not try them. They did, however, look like they had been transported to another plane by the delicious-ness of their food. I know I was. I had the gnocchi alla romana. Gnocchi is a little potato puff for lack of a better way to describe it. The sauce was rich and creamy and the sun-dried tomatoes leant a sweet flavor to the dish. The serving was so huge that I ate gnocchi for dinner last night and lunch today.
Dessert, always my favorite part of the meal, was a chocolate cake. This was a no-bake version, I believe, because the density of this cake could not be achieved in an oven. It was very much like fudge and extremely sinful. I did not have time to linger over the cake, much to my chagrin, but I did enjoy what I got to eat.
