You will not find El Ranchero listed in most tourist guides, but it is a favorite among locals. Lively Mexican music greets guests upon entering the restaurant. The dining room holds about one dozen wooden tables, with additional tables seated on the outdoor sidewalk. Everything on the menu comes recommended by regular patrons. Enchiladas Rojas includes two flour tortillas, filled with chile and topped with enchilada sauce, cheese, sour cream, avocado, cabbage and tomatoes. For a smaller meal, consider an a la carte item, such as Chicken or Beef Chimichangas.

horrible service!! The food is just ok...don t ask for more salsa...the waitress will ignore you. You feel a bit uncomfortable with how the service treats you..couldn t wait to get out of there and never to return!!

This place is fantastic, the owner is wonderful and treats you like family. The food is great and reasonably priced. The special plate and fish burrito are favorites of ours as well as the pickled carrots and jalapenos that come out with the chips and salsa.

Best find in a long time for mexican food! We will return to this spot closer than our other regular mexican shop in Escondido!

Besides the great food, I also enjoy this place because I can enjoy a nice meal with my wife and dog while sitting on their outdoor patio. My favorite is the scoop of corn stuff they give you with each dish. My least favorite is that they give you a small amount of chips and salsa and then take a while to bring you more when you ask for more.

I'm kinda new to Vista, but have been here about 5 times, 2 inside and 3 for take out. Great Mexican food and nice people. I like their hard shell potato tacos.
