Cafe 222

Description

Designed by a local architect, this informal cafe is a tiny, angular room located near Horton Plaza . The indoor area includes just six wooden tables. Most patrons eat outside on the sidewalk tables. The breakfast menu is the most popular, featuring Joe's Special (a Frittata with eggs, potatoes, spinach and peppers). Other breakfast favorites include home-baked scones and muffins, as well as Pumpkin Waffles. For lunch, the Cafe Burger is a hit, served with Goat Cheese.

Customer service is HORRIBLE !!! Staff behaves as if customers are a bother. The waiter would NOT get 2 extra chairs for the extra members in our party. The waiter would NOT get menus for our extra quests. I had to go get our menus. It is noisy, the food is NOT outstanding - barely average - and it is OVERPRICED. For $70.00, the price I paid at Cafe 222, I have had superior food and service elsewhere. It is NOT fun, NOT Great, NOT worth it, and definitely NOT ONE OF THE BEST BREAKFAST PLACES IN SAN DIEGO !!!!! Go to Mimi's or Denny's. Food is better, and they WANT their customers - Cafe 222 does not.

very small restrurant, and a wait if more than 2 in your party. great service and great food. The griddles potatoes are the best, I ate 2 orders and wish I has some now, very nicely seasoned with peppers and onion and spices. Nice rich coffee, reasonably priced. definatly will go again when visiting San Diego. There was 4 in our party and we all had something different, was all really good.

Don't Judge A Book....

by it's cover. Didn't even want to go in but we were told by someone who lives in the neighborhood the breakfast is great. And it was! Had the pumpkin waffle the first day (the best) and the second day had an egg creation the owner said was yummi....it was. Wish I could have stayed another day. I will be back!

Looking forward to my next visit.

At first I was slightly detoured by the seemingly long line, but I was told by other customers outside of the restaurant that I would regret it if I walked away. Most people coming out said that we (the waiting) would not be disappointed. The delay was not that bad and the food was exceptional. I am a semi-picky eater and their menu selection was outstanding (breakfast). I would recommend this restaurant to those who enjoy eating-out. Try going to the farmers market down the street on Sundays before eating. This makes for a nice little morning out.

Not your typical dine-out

For a small restaurant they really covered everything well! Server always smiled, the place was clean, music not too loud, and then came the food.....awesome. I had the Italia, it was delicious-and hot! Another positive to a small place like that is your always near the kitchen so your food comes right to the table. But the menu items, the hanging spoons etc, makes for an original place. I loved it, check it out. I'll probably be there!

Great Place for Breakfast...

Tthe banana and peanut butter french toast but come early or have some time to spare because their can be a long wait for the limited seating. If you go on a Sunday you can wait at the farmers market just down the street.

Absolutely the best breakfast we've had in 49 years!! The menus selections will amuse you (green eggs with spam), while the food will delight your tast buds.

The food food was absolutely spectacular. We would recommend that you allow time for your food to be prepared -- this isn't McDonalds, thank God!
