Fidel's Little Mexico
Fidel's Little Mexico has been a San Diego landmark since the early '60s when owner Fidel Montanez came up with the idea to serve tacos at his busy barber shop. The shop was located in the heart of Eden Gardens, a small neighborhood in Solana Beach that was home to a number of Mexican families. The tacos sold like hotcakes, and before long, the place evolved into a neighborhood cantina. The business thrived and expanded as Fidel converted his two-story residence into three different levels, including a festive courtyard, a couple of bars and outdoor patios, and a taco bar. Today, Fidel's ranks among the top restaurants in San Diego County. Happy hour is offered four days a week in the large upstairs bar. Fidel's menu offers traditional favorites as well as house specialties that will transport you and your party South of the Border.
First off, the decor is classic Mexican. The summer patio is just beautiful. As for the food, it is very good. Our whole family enjoys it, going a few times a year. They put twists on Mexican things like the crab burrito. Everything about it is fresh and I have no complaints.
I am a native San Diegan and Fidel's is one of my all time favorites. I am Spanish/Greek and I know good Mexican food. My relatives from Santa Fe, New Mexico agree! My favorites are the Beef Enchiladas, Chicken & Rice Soup, and the beans! All the food they serve is good based on all the ooh's and ahh's coming from my table! They also treat us like family each and everytime. The Patrone Margarita is yummy, but so is the house one on the rocks!
I Have Lived In San Diego All My Life! I Went To Fidel's For The First Time Last Week And Was Very Satisfied! The Salsa,Beans,And Albondigas Soup Is The BEST! I Sat In The Bar Area And Had Excellent Service From JESUS! Thank You!
