Beware: Food is terrible. Horrible managment and owners! Very rude to customers. Drinks are weak and way over priced. Do your self a favor and go to the hundreds of other places that care about you and the money you spend!

Visited The Field 27 Dec 07. Was as advertised - very good food. I had the Philly Cheese Boxty w/pepper corn gravy - the potato pancake was perfect. My wife had the Fish and Chips - she still raves about it. We did not go back on Sunday for the Irish Dancing, but we will on our next trip to San Diego.

Slainte!

The food never disappoints... I love going there Sunday late afternoon for a Guiness, some home-cookin', and live music. Happy hour is always a good time, too.

San Diego in a nutshell
By ,
San Diego was one of my first stops on a tour of the West Coast. What can I say? After having had to put up with the bad service at the bar over the road my friends and I decided to try The Field as we always have fun at Irish Pubs back home. The beer was cheap and flowing, the conversation amazing, and Steve the bouncer was a great kisser! :-P

One of the finest Irish pubs on the West Coast

Brilliant fish and chips (try the halibut instead of the cod), a proper pint of Guinness, and some of the best bread pudding I've ever had. Highly recommended.

Don't miss the Champ!
By ,
I'm sure the great rustic Irish Pub atmosphere is because the building is from Ireland and reassembled here. The service was also friendly and fast. We are overdue for a return visit. About a year ago four of us went for Sunday Brunch so we had both breakfast and lunch dishes. I don't remember what the others had but my Corned Beef was excellent. Everyone gave their dishes rave reviews and we all had a taste of each dish. The star of the show was the Champ (potatos). Two entrees came with Champ and before we realized how much we had eaten, it was almost gone. Everyone agreed that we needed two more servings.

The Field does not need my endorsement.

...But it's one of my downtown favorites. Traditional Irish breakfast all day! And the best-poured pint of Guinness in San Diego. You can get a frequent customer card which gets you great discounts, just ask your server. They always have great things going, from traditional music jam sessions to step dancing, to Padres games on the big projection screen.
