If you want a vegan pizza, you have to order glutton-free. If you do a build your own pizza, each topping is $1.50, which is pretty expensive considering you can buy an entire can of each topping for that price more or less. Plus, if you reject the cheese, shouldn t you get a free topping? Across from the train station.
This place is an institution. DON'T come here if you want fufu gourmet pizza, a quiet dinner, or top notch tableside service. DO come here if you want to have a fun night out with friends, drink some incredible craft brews and eat some good pizza, and experience the laid back fun-loving vibe of a great coastal community.
Why only four stars? For one I prefer my toppings above the cheese (crisper pepperoni & no mult-layer separation of the slice) but more importantly the crust could have been more cooked-through the last several times I have gone (kind of raw in the middle top to bottom and floppy/soft in from the crust--oven calibration please?).
However, don't let this shortcoming keep you from a classic experience...
Pizza Port is a pizza and brewery place that is up in Solano Beach. The serve pizza, pizza and more pizza. Kind of imagine a mom and pop's Chuck E. Cheese joint. It is a little more grittier, but it is the same deal. Games for the kids, beer for the parents and pizza for everyone. Really good pizza. If you like pizza with crust this is the place for you. Everytime me and my friends hit the place, we chow down like there is no tomorrow.
Drawbacks: (1) Location is kinda out there. If you live in Solano Beach it is great, but for the rest of us, it is kind of a drive to get up to North County. (2) Bench seating. Be ready to share space with strangers. This place is set up with a lot of picnic tables. (3) Loud. This place is pretty loud when busy. Between the kids and the beer, every body talks at a shout.
Bottom line: Great pizza, great beer. I definitely recommend hitting this place. But if you don't live in Solano Beach, be prepared to make a trip out of it.
The food is great - the beer is great -try sharkbite red. Service is fast but it can be very loud and you have to fight to get a table (it's seat yourself). And getting to the northcounty can make this an inconvenient place to meet but one that always pleases.
The double-edged sword that is Pizza Port is that the place is so good that everyone goes there. Very laid back atmosphere where you sit on picnic tables, eat gourmet pizza, drink fresh microbrew, and watch surfing videos. Very SoCal beach cool. Always crowded so seating is tough. You can always make friends with your neighbors as you eat with different folks at the benches.
Great to bring kids to
This place has some delicious pizza, but the real draw is the many many beers they microbrew- including the root beer! Atmosphere is not great though- very cramped. We had to share a table at 3 in the afternoon on a Saturday.
Located in the seaside town of Solana Beach, this dining venue is ideal for a romantic evening of quiet conversation.
